It was so wonderful to see so many of our parents and students participating in the Franklin Homecoming Parade this year. Thank you to all who allowed your children in Student Council, Robotics club and those chosen by their teachers to ride on our Kohlberg "float".
Thanks, also, to all of you families that lined the parade route to watch the parade and get candy! It was such a great way to support our Franklin Cougars as one of the schools in their feeder pattern and for our students to be a part of the larger westside community. These types of experiences go a long way in building a sense of belonging and pride in our students and to make positive home to school connections and lasting memories.
We hope to have even more involved next year!
Way to go, Kohlberg Coyotes!
Coyote Pups Club Has Begun!
Our PK-2nd grade students (Pups) were visited by teams of fifth-grade students who came to lead a lesson about our core value of the month-Self-Control.
Each month, the same team of students will be going to the PK-2nd grade classes to do SEL activities with the students. I write a script and work with the fifth graders and they practice with their team (led by Student Council members).
This has been such an amazing thing to be a part of the past three years. The fifth graders grow in self-confidence, speaking in front of others, and leadership. The PK-2nd graders LOVE the older students visiting their classrooms. The teachers are there, of course, to support and provide classroom management assistance. And the younger students really do listen to the older students. It is great to see these cross-grade-level relationships being built. The lessons are reinforced for the older students, too! 🙂 It is a win, win, win situation!
Red Ribbon Week Begins Monday!
We are excited for a great week of teaching our students the importance of being drug-free and reaching their goals for the future.

EPISD Mock Election for Kohlberg Students 1st-5th graders
Kohlberg will be participating in EPISD's Mock Election. Students will be learning the importance of voting. Our teachers will discuss the history and purpose of voting prior, without disclosing their opinion on who they are voting for. On Tuesday, October 29th students from 1st-5th will get the chance to vote for their preferred candidate, in private. This gives them a chance to practice the voting process in a safe environment. Elementary schools will only have the Democratic and Republican candidate on the ballot.
**If you DO NOT want your child to participate, please email Cheryl Ford at clparham@episd.org
