6th-8th Grade Districts Festival

Claire DeSorgher & Lucy McElwain

On Friday, May first, and Saturday, May second, sixth through eighth grade students in band and chorus had the opportunity to participate in districts. Districts is an annual event when band and chorus students from neighboring schools all over Franklin County meet up and perform four songs as a group. Three groups perform at the district music festival: the concert band, the wind ensemble, and the chorus. On Friday, all the groups practiced from 9:30 to 4:00 at SATEC, and on Saturday, the groups practiced at the Collins Perley Sports Complex from 9:30 to about 11:30, and then they had their performance, which was open to the public, at 2:00. The first group to perform was the concert band; they performed a complex song called Alien Invasion by David Gorham. After they performed the chorus was up, they sang the notable Wau Bulan which is a Malaysian folk song, they also had choreography to go with this performance. The last group to perform was the wind ensemble. They played Blue Sky Horizon by Randall Standridge. Districts are a great opportunity and learning experience for all who choose to go and congratulations to all students from SACS and other schools who participated!

Stewardship Committee Re-Start and New Mural!

Claire DeSorgher

Hey St. Albans City School! I am pleased to announce that our school is set to adorn a new mural at the front of our building by the end of the school year! This is super exciting right? But where is the mural coming from? You may ask, and who is painting it? Well I am also ecstatic to reveal that our school has brought back the Stewardship Committee for both 5th and 6th and 7th and 8th grade! The Stewardship Committee in 7th and 8th grade has taken the lead in painting and procuring the materials for the new mural. This new mural will showcase a diverse group of students working on our school’s flower/butterfly garden. We are so excited to get this mural up on the walls of our school building and hope that it brings joy, hope, color to the lives of everyone who views it.

Thank you and keep your eyes peeled for a spot of new color at the front of our school!

5th & 6th Dance

Zoe Daigle

On Friday, May 8th 5th & 6th graders had a beach themed dance! There were a lot of fun games at the dance like limbo, musical chairs, and a hula hoop contest. There was also a raffle, how the raffle worked is you would put your first name and your last name on a paper and put it in a bin, and every once in a while they would pull a few names out to either pick a prize or play in a game. Food wise there were chips, Hawaiian punch, pears, and cookies. If people got tired or it got too loud on the dance floor they could go outside the cafeteria and color. Overall the dance was really fun and everyone had a good time! Thank you to everyone who attended and all the teachers who helped make this dance happen!
