Oakhurst Weekly
From the Principal
Happy Holidays! As the world swirls with cheer and joy around this time of year, I want to acknowledge that there are also troubles that abound. What makes our little school so special is the way we continue to show love and support for each other no matter what. May this break be restorative and peaceful for all.

Universal Screening Assessments
All of the Universal screening Assessments (STAR Math, Early Literacy, and Reading) have been completed. These computerized adaptive tests help teachers, parents, and administrators improve learning for all students and make informed decisions to promote a child's academic growth.
You will receive a letter, along with the STAR reports, in your childโs Thursday Communication folder today, December 18, 2025. As a part of the Georgia Early Literacy legislation, we are sharing the Universal Screening results. You will receive a letter communicating whether an academic risk has been identified or not. This allows us to identify needs and plan for the appropriate interventions early. You may find the STAR Family Information helpful as well.
๐ There's SNOW MUCH to read over holiday break! ๐
We may be heading into a break from school, but don't let it be a break from amazing reading adventures!
Each student is bringing home a personalized holiday break reading tracker this week. Students can color in one snowman for every day they read for the prescribed number of minutes (which varies by grade level). โ
No need to turn these in! They're just for fun, and they double as a giant-sized bookmark!
Check out events at some of our favorite local spots:
Decatur Library: Great family events on their calendar all year long.
Little Shop of Stories hosts Winter Solstice Story Time on Sunday, December 21.
Virginia Highland Books is hosting in-store story time on Tuesday, December 23 and Tuesday, December 30.

This request form will go directly to our school counselor, Ms. King, and she will send home a snack bag with your student every Friday.
