Hello, Deer Hill Families!

On Monday the Deer Hill community came together to share in the rare phenomenon of the solar eclipse. The weather could not have been more accommodating as we congregated on the field to witness this event together. The next solar eclipse that New England will experience takes place on (gulp!) May 1, 2079. On that day I hope Deer Hill students look back and remember the brief overshadowing of our sunny field and our collective appreciation for the marvelous workings of our solar system.

I hope that your family has a relaxing Spring Break. When we return there will be just eight weeks of school but much to do!

Last Call for the Deer Hill Family-School Relationship Survey: It would be GREATLY appreciated if you would take a few minutes to complete the Deer Hill Family-School Relationship Survey 2024 with an extended deadline of Sunday, April 14. Your input through the survey is anonymous, though I always welcome direct feedback. I'm happy to have a phone call or meet if you have anything you'd like to discuss directly. Thank you again for being such an important voice in our Deer Hill community.

Save the Date for the CEF Spelling Bee: Registration opens the Monday after break for our CEF sponsored spelling bee which will take place May 13 (grade 3), May 14 (grade 4), and May 15 (grade 5) at 3:45 in the Deer Hill gym! Please see the flyer below for details.

Math Mornings at Deer Hill: Deer Hill is excited to invite all families to enjoy a morning of math games with students followed by a presentation from our math specialists. Please see the attached flyer for dates, details, and a link to RSVP for these morning events hosted by each grade level.

"FAVORITES '24" Deer Hill Student Art Exhibit: Each student has chosen a favorite artwork of the year to be included in this exhibit. The gala opening reception will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2024, from 7-8:30pm. We will also be celebrating the grand unveiling of a very special 5th grade clay tile art installation to be hung in our newly renovated Susan B. McNamara Innovation Commons. There will be refreshments and music. All are invited to attend. You won't want to miss it!

You're Invited to a Celebration of Autism Acceptance: April is Autism Acceptance Month. Let's come together as a community to CELEBRATE and LEARN about autism TOGETHER. All families are encouraged to come to the Osgood School on Tuesday, April 30th from 5:30-7:30pm to celebrate the end of Autism Acceptance Month. There will be sensory play, crafts, books, FOOD, and more!

Attention Grade 5 Families: Principal Mills from Cohasset Middle School and I collaborate closely to ensure a smooth transition to 6th grade for our current 5th graders. Please see this document which lists the dates of all planned transition steps.

Deer Hill Happenings

Celebrating Diversity at Mosaic: It was great to see so many members of our Cohasset school community at Mosaic last night. From talented dancers to delicious treats from around the world, there was a lot to celebrate from our rich backgrounds.

School Committee Spotlight: Deer Hill students had an opportunity on Wednesday evening to present our Before and After School Enrichment (BASE) program to the School Committee. BASE coordinator and 4th grade teacher Erica Parrell highlighted details of this enrichment opportunity which is staffed by teachers, specialists, and ESPs who want to connect with students by sharing their talents and passions. Deer Hill students gave school committee members a hands-on taste of their experiences with quick sessions on the math game 24, a STEAM experiment, and a figurative language analysis of Taylor Swift lyrics (popstar or poet -- what's your vote?)

Community Visitors at Deer Hill: Deer Hill welcomed the Safe Harbor Youth Ambassadors who performed Samantha Skunk for our 3rd grade classes. This has become an annual tradition and a way for our middle and high schoolers to serve as role models for younger students by promoting good choices.
