HMS Friday Flyover

HMS FridayFlyoverAugust 14th, 2026

From the Principal From the Principal

Hello Hawks!

The countdown is officially on! As we head into the final weekend before the start of school, there is already so much excitement and energy around Heineman. Our staff has been hard at work preparing classrooms, planning meaningful learning experiences, and getting everything ready to welcome our Hawks back for an incredible year.

We kicked things off this week with an amazing 6th Grade Jumpstart! It was so much fun welcoming our newest Hawks into the building and watching them begin to get comfortable with middle school. Students had the opportunity to meet staff, connect with classmates, learn their way around Heineman, and get a feel for what it means to be a Hawk. Their energy and enthusiasm were contagious, and we cannot wait to see them back on the first day!

It was also wonderful to see so many of our students and families during Materials Pick-Up. There is something special about seeing the building start to come back to life as students walk through the doors, reconnect with friends and staff, and begin getting excited about the year ahead. Thank you to everyone who stopped by and helped make it such a positive start to the school year.

This year, we are going ALL IN—Every Student Matters! Being All In means showing up for one another, bringing our best each day, building meaningful connections, and making sure every student knows they are an important part of our community.

Enjoy one final weekend of summer, Hawks. We cannot wait to see everyone next week and officially begin this journey together. It’s time to Go ALL IN Today—and every day!

Here’s to an incredible year ahead—Let's Fly Together!

Go All IN Today!

Announcements & Reminders 📣 Announcements & Reminders 📣

NEW: Physical Exams and Immunizations

In accordance with the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the Illinois School Code, physical examinations are required for all Huntley 158 students entering pre-school, Kindergarten, 6th and 9th grades, and for students transferring from out-of-state. Physicals are also required for students participating in interscholastic sports. The physical examination must include a record of all immunizations the child has received to date. For information about immunizations and other health requirements as well as how to submit medical records to the school electronically, visit the Health Requirements page of the district website.

All physicals and immunizations must be submitted prior to the first day of school or students will not be allowed to attend school. If you feel you have an extenuating circumstance that will prevent you from meeting the first day of school deadline for submitting the required forms, please contact the school nurse as soon as possible.

NEW: Transportation and Parent Pick Up

Bus Riders:

Bus Riders will enter and dismiss through our back doors at the beginning and end of each day. In the morning, students can come directly into the school building once dismissed from the bus and wait in the cafeteria until they are released to the pods. At the end of the day, bus riders will exit the rear of the building and make their way directly to their bus. Buses will be lined up out back in numerical order according to route.

Please be aware, the first few days may take a little longer than normal during both AM and PM runs.

Car Riders:

If your student is a car rider, they will be dropped off in the AM and picked up in the PM at the main entrance. As cars enter the parking lot, please turn immediately to your right and head East in our lot. At the end of the lot you will turn left (North). You will then turn into the "first" row. As you make your way to the end of the row, you will turn right to come along the sidewalk. This pattern will allow us to move cars more rapidly through our lot. Please do not park and escort or walk students to the sidewalk.

At the end of the day parents should remain in their cars in the pick-up line. Students will not be allowed to cross into the parking lot. Your cooperation with this is greatly appreciated.

Below you will find the traffic flow for PM pick-up. Please form 2 lines between the cones at the south end of the parking lot. As traffic begins to move forward please “zipper” the two lines to form one as you turn to head north in the lot.

We appreciate your cooperation as we try to get more cars into the parking lot and off of Dr John Burkey drive so that our buses can get in and we can keep traffic moving. We also request that cars pull as far forward as possible, especially along the sidewalk. Please refrain from stopping directly. Thank you!

Arrival Times: Students will be able to enter the building around 7:00. Please note that for safety purposes, we ask that students be dropped off at this time.

Pick-up: In an effort to get students safely and efficiently out of the building, we ask that cars pull as far forward as possible when picking up students at the front of the building. By pulling all the way to the end of the sidewalk it allows us to get more cars into the parking lot and off of the road. Thank you for your assistance with this.

Attendance Medical Notes

Please remember to send in a medical note for your child if they have missed school for an appointment. You may also email your note to our Attendance Secretary, Mrs. Lisa Meyers at limeyers@district158.org.

If you child will be out due to a vacation, please have them pick up a vacation absence form in the school office. This will help our office properly track attendance . These absences are considered unexcused per District 158 that follows the State of Illinois policies.
