This week, we’re setting our sights high with a campus-wide goal of 100% attendance for both students and staff! Every day counts — in the classroom and across our campus — as we continue to build momentum toward academic excellence and community pride.

Let’s show what it means to be Parker PROUD by being Present, Ready, and On Time each day this week. Together, we can hit 100%! Our goal for the school year is 97%.

Grade levels and departments that reach 100% attendance this week will earn special recognition in next week’s Parker Pulse!

Parker Families,

We are still glowing from the joy, energy, and celebration of this year’s Mercado — and it truly would not have been possible without you! From lending essential supplies like tents, floor fans, and extension cords, to spending hours helping with setup, serving, and supporting performances — our Parker parents showed up in every way imaginable. Your generosity, teamwork, and positive spirit helped create an unforgettable day filled with music, color, and culture. A special shout-out goes to:

  • ALL THE PARENTS who volunteered their time during the event. Whether you were helping behind the scenes, guiding students, running tables, or simply jumping in wherever a hand was needed — you helped everything run seamlessly. The Mercado’s success is a reflection of your dedication and love for our school community. Your partnership and commitment reflect what makes Parker so special — a true family that comes together to support our students and celebrate the traditions that make our community shine. Thank you again for your time, your kindness, and your generous hearts. We couldn’t have done it without YOU!
  • Jeanette Mueller, Crystal Laurie, Sara Bean, Mindy Samuelson, Ms. Fadul, Ms. Larocca, Ms. Friel, Ms. Ray- Landschoot, Ms. Ginsburg, Mr. Yeriazarian, Ms. Shulha, and Laura Chung! We are so grateful for our amazing PTO Board Members who went above and beyond to help make Mercado a success! From attending planning meetings to organizing shirt orders and ensuring we had everything we needed, your time, teamwork, and dedication made all the difference. A special thank you to our PTO President, Jeanette, for your leadership and support throughout the process. Your guidance helped everything come together seamlessly. We truly appreciate the countless ways you show up for our students, staff, and school community. We couldn’t have done it without you!

With deepest appreciation,

Ms. Garcia and Ms. Sotelo

Get ready, Parker families! Our Curriculum & Carnival Night is almost here, and we can’t wait to welcome you for an evening of learning, laughter, and family fun! This exciting event will showcase the incredible teaching and student work happening every day at Parker while giving families a chance to explore classrooms, enjoy hands-on activities, and connect as a community.

📅 Event Details

  • Date: Tuesday, October 14

  • Time: 6:00–7:30 PM

  • Doors Open (for vendors): 5:45 PM

This night combines the best of both worlds — a look inside your child’s learning experience and a festive atmosphere filled with food, family engagement, and fun surprises!

🍕 Family Fun & Food

  • Free Dinner: Beginning at 6:00 PM, all school-aged students (up to 18 years old) can enjoy a free pizza dinner in the cafeteria provided by HISD nutrition services.

  • Parent Tastings: Our district nutritionist will offer sample items from the HISD student menu — come taste what’s being served in our cafeteria!

  • Book Swap: Hosted by Ms. Hokanson in front of the cafeteria — bring a gently used book to trade and take home something new!

  • Popcorn & Water: Complimentary popcorn and waters will be served in the cafeteria for families to enjoy while visiting the vendor area.

**Pizza and Popcorn can be enjoyed in the cafeteria and vendor areas only. It will not be allowed in the classrooms.

🧩 Classroom Experiences

Every 30 minutes, classrooms will host interactive sessions where students take the lead!

You’ll have the chance to:

  • Participate in student-led activities that highlight current learning.

  • Explore student work samples and classroom displays.

  • Engage in a brief Q&A with teachers about classroom learning.

Each session will run the same experience three times so families can visit multiple classrooms and come and go as needed:

Session

  • Session 1: 6:00–6:30 PM
  • Session 2: 6:30–7:00 PM
  • Session 3: 7:00–7:30 PM

-If you have multiple students in multiple grade levels, please bring another adult to visit with you. Prioritize the areas you want to experience based on your individual needs within the three rotations.

🌎 Bilingual Session Rotations

Our bilingual teachers will rotate languages throughout the evening to ensure access for all families:

Ms. Monita

  • Session 1 (SPANISH): 6:00–6:30 PM

🌍 Cultural Celebration in 2nd Grade! 🌍 Cultural Celebration in 2nd Grade!

Our 2nd graders had a truly special week of cultural learning and celebration! As part of their Ancient Greece unit, students enjoyed a Hellenic celebration hosted by Niko’s parents. Niko’s mom, Evy—who is originally from Greece—treated students to a “little taste” of her culture with delicious sweet and savory Greek treats. The experience brought history to life and gave our students a chance to explore culture beyond the classroom.

Thank you to our amazing Parker families for helping create these moments where our students learn not only about the world but from the world.

Student Research and Resources 📝🔬 Student Research and Resources 📝🔬

Many of our students are currently working on research projects, and I want to make sure you have the right tools to support them at home. I’ve put together a document with high-quality, student-friendly research options that are available through Clever.

The document also includes Spanish and Early Elementary links for younger learners. All links are clickable, but students can also access everything directly by logging in through Clever.

🌟 October Character Focus: Responsibility 🌟 October Character Focus: Responsibility

This month, we’re talking about Responsibility — because being responsible is like being your own superhero! You can always count on yourself to do the right thing.

Each week in October, we’ll focus on different ways to show responsibility at home, at school, and within ourselves.

October 7–10: Be Responsible at Home
Come prepared to class, bring your homework, practice your instrument, and be a helper.
Show your parents and teachers they can rely on you to do the right thing!

October 13–17: Be Responsible in Class
Keep your area clean, pay attention, and complete your assignments.
Show your teachers they can count on you to stay focused and ready to learn.

October 20–24: Be Responsible in Common Areas
Make good choices in the restrooms, cafeteria, and playground.
Keep areas clean, walk quietly and orderly in the hallways, and be kind to others.
Show everyone you can be trusted to do the right thing—everywhere you go!

October 27–31: 💫 Be Responsible by Being Self-Aware
Accept responsibility for your actions, recognize your part, and take steps to make it right.
Say sorry and try to do better next time. You can be your own superhero—
show yourself that you can rely on you!
