Field Trip

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are excited to announce that 3rd grade will be going on a field trip to Wade Hampton High School in Greenville, SC on Wednesday, Nov 18, 2026 from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM.

This unique field trip will give students the opportunity to see a live performance that reflects our state standards on fiction literature and story elements.

Fall Production – Choose Your Own Oz
Choose Your Own Oz is an interactive adaptation of the classic The Wizard of Oz. Our narrator, Nigel, likes to mix things up and gets help from the audience to make the story more “exciting”—at least according to him! Students will get to follow a familiar story while having opportunities to share their opinions and help influence what happens next.

The production is approximately 80 minutes and is a great opportunity for students to experience live theatre in a fun and interactive way.

We will return to school at approximately 12:30 PM and will eat school bagged lunch in our classrooms.

The cost of the trip is $10 per student. Payment (cash or check) may be made on Tuesdays or Thursdays only and is due by November 3rd, 2026. Please make checks payable to Chandler Creek Elementary School.

Multiplication

Our third graders have begun work with multiplication beginning with our last unit, the introduction to multiplication. In third grade, students will achieve mastery of facts 0 - 10. Mastery of these facts is crucial to students’ success in later units such as division, measurement, fractions, and area.

Starting on Monday, October 5th, students will practice and take multiplication tests. Tests will be given in this order: 0’s/1’s, 2’s , 10’s, 5’s, 3’s, 4’s, 6’s, 7’s, 8’s, and 9’s. If students make 80 percent or higher, they will move to the next level. If they do not, they will continue to stay at the same level until they master it.

As an incentive, we are planning a special celebration after we finish the unit to reward their hard work! As students master each fact family, they will earn a different treat for an ice cream sundae. Students earn each treat by scoring 100 percent at each level.

Thank you for helping your child study and master these facts to ensure a successful year in third grade!

Missing Assignments & NHI: A Quick Guide for Parents

  • What does NHI mean? NHI stands for "Not Handed In." This means your child has not turned in a required assignment.

  • How to determine what is missing: You can log into parent backpack to see which assignments are marked NHI. The assignment name, due date, and any related details will be listed there.

  • What happens if the assignment isn’t turned in: An NHI counts as a 0 in the gradebook until the work is submitted. Once your child completes and turns in the missing assignment, the grade will be updated. If the assignment is never turned in, the NHI will remain a 0, which may significantly impact your child’s overall grade.

  • Submissions to clear an NHI must be turned in to the teacher within 2 weeks of the original assignment date.

Reassessment Policy Reassessment Policy

After a minor assignment is given, students who have not mastered the material will be offered the opportunity to analyze and reflect on their learning, and may request a reassessment. Chandler Creek teachers will reteach concepts students haven’t mastered, then reassess relevant parts of the assignment to promote a mastery of learning concepts prior to a major assessment. Requests for reassessment must be submitted within one week of the minor grade being posted.

Homework in 3rd Grade Homework in 3rd Grade

Each night, we encourage students to build strong learning habits by:

  • Reading for at least 20 minutes

  • Practicing math facts for 10 minutes

  • Completing any study guides for upcoming tests

  • Reviewing spelling words

These activities don’t need to be turned in, but we’ve found that students who make them part of their daily routine grow in confidence and perform better throughout the year. Your support at home makes a big difference!

Chromebooks Chromebooks

Chromebooks will remain at school.

Attendance Policy Attendance Policy

Greenville County School District has implemented a new attendance policy for the 2024-25 school year. Students are permitted up to 10 absences per school year, regardless of reason. Parent notes must be turned in to the school within three (3) days of the absence. Absences will not be excused after the 3 days.
