Dear Flower Valley Community,

The 4th marking period is here! Where has the year gone? Please encourage your children to keep up the great work and finish the year strong!

Tonight is the PTA restaurant night fundraiser at Chuck E. Cheese (5238 Nicholson Lane, Kensington, MD) from 3pm- 9pm. Make it an easy dinner night and come enjoy a good time with FVES families! Don't forget to mention FVES when ordering (games or food)! All of the proceeds support FVES. :)

The Lost and Found is growing exponentially! Please encourage your child to take a look to see if any of their belongings are in the Lost and Found. Parents and caregivers can also drop by to take a look. We will move the Lost and Found to our main lobby area.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Wishing you peace,

Dr. Fish

National Autism Awareness Month National Autism Awareness Month

zoom_out_map

National Autism Awareness Month raises awareness for autism and Asperger's syndrome during April. The month-long observance takes place during World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD), celebrated each year on April 2nd. World Autism Awareness Day was adopted by the United Nations in 2007 to shine a bright light on autism. World Autism Awareness Day activities increase world knowledge of autism and impart information about the importance of early diagnosis and early intervention. Additionally, World Autism Awareness Day celebrates the unique talents and skills of persons with autism around the world. During Autism Awareness Month, Flower Valley will be celebrating those people in history who have helped to shine a light on Autism Awareness Day as well as famous people with Autism in history.

Celebrating Our Paraeducators Celebrating Our Paraeducators

Let's show our appreciation for our amazing paraeducators!

Next week (3/31-4/4), we are celebrating the (often) unsung heroes of the school! Our dedicated paraeducators play a vital role in supporting our students every day, and we’d love your help in showing them how much they are valued! They support classroom teachers in numerous ways, provide targeted academic support to individuals and small groups, guide students in resolving peer issues, ensure the smooth operations of lunch, recess, arrival, and dismissal, cover classes when substitutes aren’t available, and so much more! A simple note of appreciation can go a long way in making their day extra special. We encourage families to take a moment to send a short thank-you note by completing our Google Form. Let’s come together to celebrate the incredible impact our paraeducators have on our school community!

We are looking forward to sharing this wonderful evening with you.

Schools will share individual messaging to welcome students with their communities. Note: The first day of school for all students is Tuesday, Aug. 26.

Planning for Spring Testing at FVES Planning for Spring Testing at FVES

Students in grades 3 to 5 will take the MCAP assessments in April. The Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) provides information to educators, parents, and the public on student progress towards proficiency on the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards. Please refer to grade level newsletters for specific dates and times of testing. If you can avoid appointments during these times, it would be greatly appreciated.

Parent and caregiver volunteers support the overall success of Flower Valley. We welcome volunteers and are truly grateful for the ways you support our school each and every day. Some volunteer opportunities include serving as a mystery reader in class, sharing information about your career or hobby via a class presentation or visit, supporting lunch and recess, chaperoning field trips, supporting in-school events, and so much more! If any of our families have a speciality in coaching or soccer, we would also welcome your support with our students during their recess soccer games.

If you are interested in serving as a volunteer, please see the information below and contact Mrs. Atanda at Jennifer_T_Atanda@mcpsmd.org. Volunteer clearance lasts for 3 years. Many volunteers who completed the training upon returning to in person learning three years ago need to complete the training again.
