September Hoover News
September 3rd, 2026

From the Principal
Dear Hoover Families,
What a wonderful start to the school year! It has been so much fun to have our students back in the building and to see the energy, excitement, and smiles filling our classrooms and hallways. There is something special about the beginning of a new school year—the opportunity to reconnect, build new relationships, and begin another year of learning and growing together.
One of our biggest priorities at Hoover is making sure every child feels known, valued, supported, and challenged. Our teachers and staff have worked incredibly hard to create welcoming classroom communities, establish routines, and help students feel a sense of belonging. We are off to a great start, and I am excited about what lies ahead!
Of course, we can't do this work without you. Our families are an important part of what makes Hoover such a special community. I hope you will find ways to connect with us throughout the year—come to family events, get involved with our PTO, stay connected with your child's teacher, and reach out when you have questions, ideas, or concerns. When our school and families work together, our students benefit.
As we begin this year together, I keep coming back to one simple thought:
“A great school year isn't something that just happens—it's something we create together.”
Thank you for trusting us with your children and for being such an important part of our Hoover community. I am excited for the year ahead and all that our students will learn, experience, and accomplish.
As always, if you have a question, concern, or something you'd simply like to share, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Here's to a great year at Hoover!
Warmly,
Michele Wileman
Principal

☕ Family Picnic
Join us for our Hoover Family Picnic on:
📅 Friday, September 11
⏰ 5:00–6:30 PM
📍 Hoover Elementary
Grab your chairs or a picnic blanket, bring the whole family, and come spend the evening with us! This is a great opportunity to meet other families in your child’s class, make new connections, and enjoy some time together as a Hoover community.
🍕 WHAT’S FOR DINNER?
You have options! Pack your own family picnic OR leave the cooking to someone else and purchase dinner from Bobbio’s Food Cart, which will be on site.
🧺 WHAT TO BRING:
• Chairs or a blanket to sit on
• Your own dinner—or grab something from Bobbio’s
• Your family
• And come ready to meet some new Hoover friends!
☀️ We’re hoping for beautiful picnic weather, but a little Oregon rain won’t stop us! If it rains, we’ll simply move the fun inside.
There’s no program, no presentation, and nothing you need to prepare for—just come, eat, relax, and connect!
We would LOVE to see a huge Hoover turnout and fill our school grounds with families enjoying time together. ❤️

🍿 Popcorn Wednesdays
Next Wednesday, September 9, is our first Popcorn Wednesday! Twice each month, our PTO provides popcorn to all students free of charge recess. If you'd like to help keep this fun Hoover tradition going, families can donate, volunteer to make or hand out popcorn, or contribute using the QR code on the PTO webpage. Thank you to our PTO and volunteers for creating these little moments of fun for our students!

Official MSD Volunteer Application
Interested in Volunteering at Hoover?
For the safety of our students, all volunteers must complete the Official MSD Volunteer Application and pass a background check before volunteering at school. Once approved, your VIM (Volunteer in Medford) status is valid for two years.
👉 Click here to complete the VIM Volunteer Application
Not sure if your VIM status is still current or have questions about the application process? We’re happy to help! Stop by the Hoover Office, call us at 541-842-3750, or email Hoover@medford.k12.or.us.
Thank you for volunteering your time and helping make Hoover a great place for our students!
🎉 CELEBRATING BIRTHDAYS AT HOOVER 🎂
We love celebrating our Hoover Hurricanes on their birthdays! To make sure every student is celebrated in the same special way, we ask families not to send cupcakes, treats, or other birthday goodies to school for individual birthdays.
Instead, once a month, Hoover hosts a Birthday Cupcake Celebration for all students celebrating a birthday that month! 🎈 In September, we also celebrate our July and August birthdays, and in May, we include our June birthdays.
🎁 Birthday Party Invitations
If your child would like to hand out invitations to a birthday party at school, invitations may only be distributed in the classroom if the entire class is invited. If only some classmates are invited, please have your child share invitations outside of the school day. This helps us avoid hurt feelings and ensures that school remains an inclusive place for everyone.
Thank you for helping us make birthdays at Hoover fun, special, and inclusive for all of our students! ❤️💙
Publicity Denial 2025- 26
Medford School District staff often take photos and videos of students during field trips, school events, sports activities, performances and during classroom instruction to share the work and accomplishments of students. Those accomplishments are shared through the district website, social media, print publications, fliers, and brochures. The district also works with local news media to promote student work, as well as district projects and initiatives.
If you do not want your student’s image to be published, please visit your school office to fill out a Publicity Denial form. We will make every effort to protect the privacy of your students.
Please note the district cannot guarantee a student’s image will not be published if the student is photographed/videotaped in a large group or crowd setting, such as school assemblies, sports events, and public meetings.
Please contact the Communications Department at msd.communications@medford.k12.or.us with any questions.
Arrival and Dismissal
The safety of your child(ren) is of utmost importance to Hoover. Arrival and dismissal are the most hectic times of the day, so I wanted to make you aware of some systems that are in place at our school.
Morning Choice
Students may get breakfast in cafeteria, walk the track, play games or color in the Pavilion, or choose another station prior to 7:50 AM.
Curbside pullout directly in front of the school on Siskiyou Blvd.-- this is a BUS ONLY area from 7:00 - 8:00 AM and again from 1:45 - 2:45 PM (12:15- 1:15 on Wednesdays).
Please see Parent Vue on our Hoover website to see which bus your student rides.
Car—Two main drop-off/pick-up areas
Along S Modoc Avenue—this will be open to car traffic for drop off from 7:20 AM – 7:55 AM. Pick-up is open after 2:20 PM (12:45 PM on Wednesdays), and is dedicated to students Grades K-3 and their siblings.
Walking—Crossing guards locations
Across Siskiyou Blvd., S. Modoc Ave., and at Dellwood and Black Oak (PM)
Along S. Modoc Avenue—Trails are cut along the back fence line of our school for student travel and a safety monitor is assigned to that area. For pick-up, this exit is dedicated to students Grades 3-5 and their siblings.
Parent Walk Up—Front Entrance of School
If you are picking up your student out in front of the school, let our safety monitor know your student’s name, and your student will be directed to meet you outside. Kinder parents can pick-up from their teacher in front of the school.
***If you change a meeting spot for your child, please let the teacher and front office know by 1:45 (12:15 on Wednesdays) so we can make sure your child gets to the correct place!
Parking on and around our campus is limited. This is especially the case during special events. In addition to our parking lots, there is parking available along the side streets and in the Community of Christ parking lot across the street. Please be respectful and do not block the neighborhood driveways. Parking in bike lanes is strictly prohibited. This is a city ordinance and not within the control of Hoover or the Medford School District.
School Supplies
Hoover is providing school supplies for all students! You may want to provide a backpack and water bottle for your child. Although we also supply headphones for student Chromebooks, if you would prefer something different, your student can bring their own. Please make sure you label each item with your student’s name.

Running Club
🏃♀️ HOOVER RUNNING CLUB IS BACK! 🏃♂️
Lace up those shoes and get ready to move! Hoover Running Club begins Tuesday, October 6 and will take place every Tuesday during first recess.
Students and staff will head out to the track together to run, walk, or jog—everyone participates at their own pace! Running Club is all about celebrating movement, being healthy, setting goals, and having fun together as a Hoover community. ❤️💙
👟 And those laps add up! We’ll track students’ miles throughout the year as they work toward an exciting goal: earning their Marathon Badge! Along the way, we’ll celebrate milestones, cheer each other on, and recognize the hard work and determination of our runners.
One of the best parts of Running Club is seeing our entire school come together—students and staff moving, encouraging one another, and celebrating every lap.
Whether you run, jog, or walk—every lap counts!
Let’s get moving, Hurricanes! 🌪️🏅
Free School Meals
Both breakfast and lunch are offered at no charge to students for the upcoming school year. You are welcome to send your student with a lunch as well.
