BBHHS ADMINISTRATION
The BBHHS Administrative Team is proud to provide experienced and consistent leadership for our students, families, and staff. Mr. Jakub is entering his eighth year at BBHHS, Mrs. Izzo her sixth year, and Mr. Backo his fifth year. Each truly enjoys working at BBHHS and appreciates the opportunity to be part of your student’s high school experience. Our doors are always open, and we welcome hearing from students and families. If you ever have a question, concern, or need assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out!
Our administrative assistants are also an essential part of the BBHHS team:
Ms. Treter – Building Administrative Assistant Entering her fourth year at BBHHS, Ms. Treter serves as secretary to the principal and coordinates many of the day-to-day operations of the building, including school fees, student parking, reception, graduation, purchasing—and pretty much everything else that keeps BBHHS running smoothly!
Mrs. Tagliacod – Attendance Secretary Mrs. Tagliacod is entering her fifth year in the district and third year as the BBHHS Attendance Secretary. She is the primary contact for attendance-related questions and concerns. If you need to get your student out of school for an appointment, emergency, or other reason, she is your best point of contact.
Mrs. Kraus – Assistant Principal Secretary Entering her third year at BBHHS, Mrs. Kraus supports our assistant principals and assists with school dances, AP and extracurricular fees, development of the master schedule, testing schedules, and many other important building operations.
In addition to serving BBHHS professionally, all three of our administrative assistants are also BBHCSD parents, providing them with a unique understanding of our school community from both the staff and family perspectives. Together, our administrative and support team is committed to making BBHHS a welcoming, responsive, and supportive environment for every student and family.
COUNSELING DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The School Counseling Department is a five-person team dedicated to supporting students’ academic, personal, social, and post-secondary development. Counselors promote student wellness, self-awareness, decision-making and goal-setting skills while providing academic counseling, personal support, and referrals when needed.
The department is structured to provide specialized support throughout high school and is assigned to a counselor based on the students grade and last name. Two counselors (Mrs. Milano and Mrs. Jonozzo) serve students in grades 9 and 10, focusing on the transition to high school, academic planning, and working with students and families to develop and monitor an individualized four-year academic plan.
Students then transition to one of three counselors (Mrs. Owens, Mrs. Baeslach, and Mr. Drypolcher) for grades 11 and 12 who specialize in college, career, and post-secondary planning. This model provides students with two dedicated counselors during their high school career while allowing counselors to develop more personalized relationships and expertise specific to each stage of a student’s high school experience.
Guidance Department Administrative Assistant- Mrs. Jen Zlojutro is your go to for connecting with your child's school counselor as she coordinates all of their meeting calendars. She is also your point of contact for a work permit, transcript request, educational record need, custodial documents and much more! She is also the parent of a BBHHS Senior giving her insight into the unique needs of students and parents at BBHHS!
ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT
The BBHHS Athletic Department, led by Athletic Director Mark Maslona and supported by Athletic Secretary Megan Schiavone, oversees 26 interscholastic athletic programs and works to provide positive and competitive experiences for our student-athletes.
Mr. Maslona and Ms. Schiavone can assist families with questions regarding athletic programs, Bees Athletic Boosters, tryouts, eligibility, college recruiting, and athletic events. They can also connect students and families with our athletic trainers provided by Cleveland Clinic.
Student-athletes must meet academic eligibility requirements based on the previous nine-week grading period. For fall sports, eligibility is based on fourth-quarter grades from the previous school year. Students must have passed a minimum of five one-credit courses or the equivalent during the preceding grading period to be eligible.
For questions regarding BBHHS Athletics, contact Mark Maslona, Athletic Director, at 440-740-4770 or reach out to Megan Schiavone in the Athletic Office.
OUR DISTRICT STRATEGIC PLAN
Our district and building are driven by key organizational documents that help set the course for our daily decisions, processes, and most importantly, interactions with our students, families, and community. Linked below are these documents, including the BBHCSD Strategic Plan, Attributes of a Bee, and Culture Playbook. We have included these here so you can best understand the organizational philosophy and goals for BBHHS.

BUILDING AND DISTRICT CALENDARS
District and school building calendar events are managed as a series of Google calendars. There is a separate calendar for the district and each individual school. These calendars may be viewed as web pages, or subscribed to in any calendar program that supports the iCal or XML formats.
For further instructions on subscribing to these calendars, please see this document. All of these calendars are automatically updated as events change.
Click here to download a digital PDF of the District calendar.
Our Athletic Department also maintains a schedule of events and information about each team available through beeathletics.com. For more information regarding athletic calendars, please contact Mr. Mark Maslona.
DAILY BELL SCHEDULES
Adjusted schedules are always shared in the weekly HS News and Notes and with the students directly in advance. Each schedule iteration is shared below for your convenience.
HOW WE COMMUNICATE
90% of life’s problems are due to miscommunication! That’s why we prioritize strong, consistent communication with our students and families. Each Friday around 5:00 p.m. (most weeks), look for our HS News and Notes email featuring upcoming events, important information, and BBHHS celebrations. It’s packed with information, so if you have a question about a school-wide event or issue, this is a great resource to check first.
We also maintain an active social media presence to share not only information about BBHHS but also to provide a look into the daily life at BBHHS. Shared below are just some of our school social media accounts you may want to subscribe to in order to see the daily life at BBHHS!
BBHCSD utilizes a mass communication system known as SchoolMessenger. This system is the delivery vehicle of our weekly newsletter and is also utilized to distribute SMS messages and phone calls for important events and emergency broadcasts such as school closures. Directions on how to register are shared in the image below. We also use a SchoolMessenger ad-on known as SafeArrival to report school absences. More detailed information on SafeArrival is shared below.
PowerSchool remains in place as our Student Information System (SIS). This tool provides parents and students access to a wealth of information, including the Student ID Number and student schedule. Current grades, report cards, and much more. We encourage you to make sure your account is active and to check in on your child’s academic progress weekly! If you have an account issue, Mrs. Kraus in the Assistant Principals’ Office is a great resource.
Our counseling office also sends a weekly update about special programming related to students for College and Career planning. Information related to the four-year plan, parent evenings, scheduling, college planning, academic support, health and wellness tips, etc. is shared in this document sent each week. Please be on the lookout for this publication every Monday!
You can also always get a student perspective on the events important to them at BBHHS through our daily announcements found on YouTube and produced by BeeTV. These segments are student-created and produced as part of our Video Production course.
REPORT AN ABSENCE IN SCHOOLMESSENGER SAFEARRIVAL
If you have not reported your child’s absence before the start of the school day, either in the SchoolMessenger App, SchoolMessenger website, or by calling the toll-free number 1-888-906-3890, SafeArrival will automatically contact you through multiple communication methods until a reason is provided. If the system cannot reach you, our school office will follow up. Failure to report the reason will result in an unexcused absence. You can report your child’s absence in advance using any of these three convenient methods:
SM Home Mobile App: Using your mobile device, download and install the SM Home app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. The first time you use the app, select “Sign Up” to create your account. Select “Attendance”, then “Report an Absence”.
SafeArrival website: home.schoolmessenger.com. The first time you use the website, select “Sign Up” to create your account. Then select “Attendance” and “Report an Absence”.
Toll-Free Phone Number: Call 1-888-906-3890 and follow the prompts to report an absence using the automated system.
These options are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and you can report absences for future dates at any time.
Same-day notifications can only be received until 12:00 PM. After that, or for absences longer than two days, you will need to call in to the building to Mrs. Tagalicod (Attendance Secretary) at 440-740-4715.
DAILY ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL AT BBHHS
The building opens for student arrival each day at 6:50 a.m. Students arriving before 7:10 a.m. are encouraged to report to the cafeteria, where they may also take advantage of The Hive’s breakfast options. At 7:10 a.m., students are free to report to their classrooms for 1st period.
Students who drive themselves to school should use their assigned Red, Black, or Gold parking lot and enter through the Main Doors or Auditorium Doors closest to their parking area.
Students being dropped off by a parent/guardian should enter through the Main Doors.
Students arriving by school bus will be dropped off at the shared drop-off area along the curb between the high school and middle school and should enter through the Main Entrance.
Please refer to the included map for detailed arrival and dismissal traffic patterns. Taking a few minutes to review the routes and entrances ahead of time will help make the start and end of each school day as smooth as possible.
DAILY ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES & CHECKING INTO BBHHS
DAILY ATTENDANCE
Daily attendance is taken during second period each day. School attendance is accounted for based on the hours of attendance (not including lunch periods) for the student. Students are required to attend each scheduled class period of the day on time. If missing from school for more than half of the students scheduled classes, they are unable to participate in school activates regardless if the absence is excused or unexceed.
Arriving to School Late
When a student arrives at school late they must scan in at our main or auditorium doors with a staff member regardless of the reason. If a student is arriving to school late (after their scheduled class reporting time) without a valid excuse they are considered tardy. The student will use their Digital School Pass ID to scan in with the attendant at the entrance station. The school uses the Identimetrics Tardy Plug in to record and track tardies. This system will print a slip that will have the time the student entered the building, the number of tardies the student currently has in the quarter, and the current consequence the student is at in the "Tardy Tree."
When a student arrives late to school with a valid excuse that was previously called in (i.e. Doctor’s appointment, funeral, etc.) they must show proof of this in the form of a doctor’s or parent note to the attendant at the entrance. If the student does not have proof in the form of a note, they must report directly to the main office for a pass to class from our attendance secretary, Mrs. Tagalicod.
Leaving School Early
If a student is leaving school early with a valid excuse (i.e doctor’s appointment, funeral, etc.) a parent MUST call this in on the attendance line (440-740-4715) or report it via SafeArrival through the SchoolMessenger App. Students who need to leave school early MUST pick up an Early Dismissal Slip from Mrs. Tagalicod in the attendance office prior to entering their final class of the day, this way they can show their teacher their dismissal slip before leaving class.
When a student who is leaving for the day exits the building they will turn in their dismissal slip to the attendant at the exit door and use their school pass digital ID to scan out of the building for the day. Students who leave for an appointment early in the day, but will be returning must sign back in at the same door they left through. The attendant at this door will retain their dismissal slip and be able to record their attendance in PowerSchool appropriately and get them a pass to class. Students who fail to follow this process may be recorded as unexcused absent.
Students Leaving Campus forAppoitnments
If a student needs to leave school for an appointment they MUST have a parent call them out via the attendance line or through SchoolMessenger if they will be missing any class period. This also applies to students on a Open Campus period unless the appointment and return to school will be completed in their scheduled Open Campus time slot.
STUDENT HANDBOOKS
All rules and regulations supporting the policies of the Brecksville-Broadview Heights Board of Education can be found in the Student Handbook. Early in the school year, students will sign off acknowledging that they have reviewed and are aware of the handbook. It is the responsibility of both students and parents/guardians to be familiar with the Student Code of Conduct.
Also included is the 2026–2027 Course Options Book, which outlines the courses available to students. An updated guide will be shared with students and families in January 2027 to support course selection and scheduling for the 2027–2028 school year.
DOCUMENTS AND FORMS
Throughout the school year, students and families will need access to a variety of forms and documents. Most of these resources can be found on the BBHHS website under the Quick Links or Resources tabs or obtained through the Guidance Office or Assistant Principals’ Office.
Key forms, including work permits and transcript request forms, are available on the Guidance section of the school website. Other forms, such as extended absence forms, dance guest affidavits, parking pass applications, and additional student resources, can be found in the Assistant Principals’ Office or on the Resources tab of the BBHHS high school webpage.
We encourage students and families to check these resources throughout the year whenever a form or important school document is needed.
STUDENT WELLNESS
At Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School, we recognize that student wellness is an important part of student success. Our wellness initiatives use a multi-tiered, evidence-based approach designed to provide the appropriate level of support based on a student’s individual needs. A multidisciplinary team works collaboratively to coordinate supports and connect students with resources that promote social and emotional well-being, healthy decision-making, and overall student engagement.
Students have access to prevention and wellness programming focused on topics such as coping skills, stress management, mental health awareness, substance use prevention, digital safety, and leadership. Additional supports are available for students who may benefit from more targeted assistance, including individual and small group programming and connections to behavioral health services. Through our partnership with Mindfully Behavioral Health, providers are available to meet with students within our school buildings, making access to additional behavioral health services more convenient for students and families.
We also maintain the Colony Cupboard as a resource for BBHCSD students and families, providing discreet access to basic necessities at no cost. Together, these programs, resources, and partnerships provide comprehensive wellness and prevention supports throughout the school year. For more information about available resources, please contact Ms. Megan Boulton.
SCHOOL SAFETY
At BBHHS, school safety is a shared responsibility. We work to create a safe, welcoming environment through strong relationships, consistent accountability, and clear expectations. A strong school safety culture also depends on everyone understanding and following the Student Code of Conduct and a commitment from everyone in our school community to See Something; Say Something. Whether it is a safety concern, a potential threat, or something that simply causes concern, reporting it allows us to respond and support our students and school community.
We are also truly fortunate to have a daily police presence at BBHHS. Our School Resource Officer, Kevin Pozek, works closely with students, staff, and administration to support a safe school environment. Officer Pozek maintains a daily presence and secures the campus each day while also supervising the school and assessing any potential risks.
TECHNOLOGY AT BBHHS
Brecksville-Broadview Heights City Schools is a 1:1 technology district, providing students with Chromebooks to support learning throughout the school day. Students are expected to check their school email and Google Classroom daily for assignments, announcements, and important information.
Students may currently bring their own device for daily use; however, teachers may require students to use their school-issued Chromebook for specific assignments or assessments. Students are encouraged to have their Chromebook with them and fully charged each day.
If a student experiences a technology issue and needs a short-term device, extra Chromebooks are available in classrooms for daily use. For repairs or a longer-term loaner device, students should see Mrs. Kraus in the Assistant Principals’ Office to begin a tech repair ticket and receive a loaner Chromebook to use during the repair process.
BBHHS also provides access to a variety of digital resources, including Naviance, research databases, and online learning platforms such as DeltaMath, ALEKS, Membean, Desmos, and others. Teachers frequently use Google Classroom as the primary learning management system (LMS) to support instruction and share assignments
DINING OPTIONS AND LUNCH MENUS
The Brecksville-Broadview Heights City Schools Food Service Department is committed to providing students with nutritious and accessible meal options throughout the school year.
Families can use My School Menus to view daily menu items, nutrition information, allergens, and customized meal options through the Build-A-Meal feature.
My School Menus is available through the mobile app or online, making it easy for students and families to plan meals and make informed food choices. The daily cost of breakfast at BBHHS is $2.25, with lunch costing $3.75 and milk costing $.50.
Families can also use PaySchools Central to check student meal balances and transactions, add funds, transfer money between siblings, and make meal payments.
BBHCSD follows the federal guidelines for Free and Reduced Lunch meal qualification. To complete the application, please visit PaySchools Central, and for assistance with the application, contact Mrs. Amy Voigt.

CLINIC INFORMATION
The BBHHS Clinic supports the health, wellness, and safety of our students throughout the school day. The clinic coordinates required school screenings, including vision and hearing screenings, and is available to assist families in developing individualized medical plans for students when needed.
We are excited to welcome Lynette Ziol to BBHHS this year as our School Nurse and Assistant Health Care Coordinator. Lynette brings several years of experience as a school nurse and will support students and families with medication administration, collection and coordination of medications for school trips, distribution of approved over-the-counter medications provided by families, and documentation and monitoring of student vaccination requirements.
Lynette is also available to work collaboratively with families and school staff when a student's medical needs require additional planning or support during the school day.
