Important Information from our School Nurse
Union Township Middle School is proud to announce it will be working with Project Adam, a national organization named for a young student athlete who died from sudden cardiac arrest during a high school basketball game. Project Adam provides guidance and resources to assist us to develop a cardiac emergency response plan which will include drills for staff. After successfully completing a series of steps, we will be designated a âHeart Safe Schoolâ.
During this process we encourage EVERYONE to notice where the five AEDâs in are located:
- Outside WHS Front Office
- In the field house/weight room
- Next to pool/concession stand
- Across from the Nurse Office
- UTMS Commons
Scan the code at each AED to get important information that could help save a life.
Body Safety Presentation
In compliance with Indiana Code 20-30-5-5.7, schools are now required to provide age appropriate, research and evidence based on instruction on child abuse and child sexual abuse to student in kindergarten through grade 12. At our elementary schools, you are likely familiar with the program presented to our students, Dunebrookâs Body Safety Program, this is an extension of the program intended for the middle and high school audience.
This year, Wheeler High School, along with Union Township Middle School, will be using the MBF Teen Safety Matters program from the Monique Burr Foundation for Children and Teens. The goal of the Program is to help keep your teen safe. Our presenter will be Sara Hoyt, Public Education Coordinator of Dunebrook.
The Program empowers students to spot and respond to bullying, cyberbullying, the four types of abuse (physical, emotional, sexual, and neglect), relationship abuse, and other digital dangers. Most importantly, it teaches that adults are responsible for their safety but there are things they can do to help adults keep them safe. The program is based on the latest research and has been reviewed and endorsed by national experts. If you would like more information, please visit the website http://www.mbfpreventioneducation.org/
