Mighty Mentors
Our Akron Rams are buzzing with excitement this week!
During MIGHTY MENTOR TIME, our preschoolers teamed up with their 8th grade buddies to explore the fascinating world of insects! Together, they built creative “bug jugs” and designed their very own unique bugs using imagination and teamwork.
The collaboration was amazing to see! Our older Rams guided and encouraged every step of the way, while our youngest learners brought their big ideas to life with creativity and curiosity. From wiggly legs to colorful wings, each creation was as unique as the students who made them.
Moments like these—filled with learning, laughter, and connection—are what Mighty Mentor Time is all about.
It’s always a great day to be an Akron Ram!
FFA
Yesterday our FFA members had a busy and successful day of contests!
Quiz Bowl – We had two teams compete. Team 1 consisted of Zephon Wells, Alex Hornung, and Kallen Bales. Team 2 included Adalyn Saffer, Izzy Hill, and Marret Caraway. The ladies advanced all the way to the final round, finishing just short, but had an outstanding performance.
District Officer Interviews – Arhy Bethel and Kason Brent were both selected to serve on the District Officer team for the 2026–27 school year.
Food Science – This group was finally able to compete in their event and gave it their all, earning a strong 4th place finish. The Food Science team consisted of Izzy Hill, Josie Shook and Shayann Poss.
Employment Skills – Arhy Bethel also competed in this event, earning a Silver rating.
Congratulations to all of these students on their hard work and accomplishments!
Memorial Career Day
On Tuesday several Akron students attended the Melissa Memorial Hospital Career Day in Holyoke. Students were shown a variety of healthcare careers, participated in hands-on demonstrations, and learned about the education and skills needed for jobs in the medical field.
FBLA
Akron FBLA attended the FBLA State Leadership Conference in Aurora April 2–4. Members had a great time networking, attending workshops, enjoying great food, competing in individual and team events, and continuing to develop their leadership skills.
Please help us congratulate the following members on their accomplishments:
AnnMarie Stahn – Peak III
Kashlee Randel – 9th Place, Impromptu Speaking
Jakzon Livesay – Capstone Completer
Caleb Hansen – Capstone Completer
We are proud of how these students represented Akron and look forward to what’s ahead!
MS Track
Our middle school tracksters participated in a meet in Holyoke last Friday, where they competed hard and represented our school well.
They were back in action on Monday in Wiggins, continuing to show improvement and determination. Several athletes set personal records, and the team brought great energy to both meets.
We’re proud of the effort and sportsmanship displayed by all of our track athletes—keep up the great work!
Baseball
On Tuesday in Wray, the Rams took on the Eagles in a hard-fought contest, ultimately falling 6–4. The team showed grit throughout the game, staying competitive and battling until the final inning.
The Rams will be back in action with a busy stretch ahead. They will play Wiggins on Thursday, followed by a varsity doubleheader on Friday against Caliche. The JV squad will wrap up the week with a game on Saturday.
With multiple games on the schedule, the Rams will look to build momentum, clean up the small details, and continue improving as the season progresses.
Golf
The Lady Rams Golf team was back in action on Monday, battling some cold winds early this morning in Wray. There was lots of improvement this week as the Varsity squad finished in the middle of a crowded field. Gracie Fassler tied for 23rd while Kendal Zimmerman, Josie Shook, and Mia Hernandez showed significant improvement from last week. The JV group also played well with Rylee Roseberry and Addy Lundquist finishing in the middle of the field. Good job, ladies!
Track
Akron participated in the Yuma Bill Kalb Track Meet on Monday, with many athletes showing improvement and hitting personal records.
Dawson Bales joined the “100 Club” in discus with a PR throw of 100-03.
AnnMarie Stahn competed in both shot put (27-00.25) and discus (62-00), while Shayan Poss recorded marks in shot put (23-01) and the 100-meter hurdles (21.98).
In discus, Isabel Hill threw 57-07.
The girls 4x800 relay team (Weis, Woods, Randel, Weers) finished with a time of 10:57.90, while the boys 4x800 team (Hart, Strand, Randel, Hottinger) ran an impressive 8:49.62.
Ana Diego competed in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 21.33.
Tania Garcia ran the 800 meters for the first time. Despite some nerves, she performed well and showed great potential for longer-distance events moving forward.
Shirley West made her return this season, competing in two 100-meter races and the long jump. We are excited to have her back more consistently.
The boys 4x200 relay team (Hunt, McCoy, Kusel, Randel) finished with a time of 1:38.24.
In the 100 meters, Jax Kusel ran 12.15, Mason McCoy ran 12.44, Ryleigh Zena ran 20.26, and Arhy Bethel finished in 16.71.
Angelina Williams recorded a long jump of 9-02 and also competed in the 400 meters with a time of 1:35.70.
The girls 4x400 relay team (Fountain, Woods, O’Neil, Weers) finished strong with a time of 4:26.32.
Eli Hart ran the 1600 meters for the first time this season, finishing in 4:59.88, which should qualify him for state. With more races ahead, he will continue working to lower his time and compete for a top finish.
In the 200 meters, Rayna Fountain ran 29.63 and Brigid Ardrey finished in 32.55.
Our goal at each meet is to qualify for state, but it’s also great to see so many athletes improving their times and distances every time they compete.
