CEWA EXECUTIVE VISIT CEWA EXECUTIVE VISIT

Rev Mark Powell (Director of Religious Education, CEWA) visited our school on Wednesday 17 June. The purpose of CEWA Executive Visits is to foster strong relationships between schools and the Catholic Education Office. During his visit, Mark had the opportunity to offer support and gain a deeper understanding of our school’s context. His time at the school was very positive, and he greatly appreciated the chance to connect with both staff and students. As a former teacher at St Brigid’s, Mark also enjoyed a tour of the school and the opportunity to see how the school has developed over time.

MID-YEAR REPORTING MID-YEAR REPORTING

I would like to thank our teachers for the time and effort dedicated to preparing the Mid-Year Reports, which will be available to parents via SEQTA Engage on Monday 29 June. These reports provide a valuable summary of each student’s achievements, along with clear goals for continued growth.

I encourage you to take the time to read through your child’s report, celebrating their successes and discussing areas for improvement. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the report, please do not hesitate to arrange a meeting with your child’s teacher(s) as we begin the new term. Families new to our school community would recently have received an email about setting up SEQTA Engage.

The following information is taken from Reading your child’s report by Michael Grose.

School reports can be stressful for children, as they often worry about how their parents will react. Because children take cues from their parents, your response plays an important role in shaping how they see themselves as learners.

Before reading the report, take a moment to reflect:

  • Make sure your expectations are realistic and match your child’s abilities. Expectations that are too high or too low can both be unhelpful.
  • Remember that children develop at different rates. Avoid comparing your child with others, and instead focus on their individual progress.
  • Aim to protect and build your child’s confidence, as self-belief is crucial for learning.
  • Reports may look different depending on the format, but they generally give insight into academic progress, behaviour, and social development.

When reviewing the report:

  • Start by identifying your child’s strengths, not just their weaknesses.
  • Consider more than academic results - social skills, independence, and cooperation are equally important for overall development and future success.
  • Pay attention to your child’s own reflections, as they are often honest and insightful about their progress.
  • Talk through the report together, beginning with positives before discussing areas for improvement. Encourage your child to share their thoughts and feelings.

After discussing the report:

  • Consider both effort and attitude toward learning. Effort is just as important as outcomes.
  • Celebrate your child’s hard work and progress, even if results are not perfect. A small reward or special activity can reinforce their efforts and maintain motivation.

LUNCH WITH LEADERSHIP LUNCH WITH LEADERSHIP

It is with great excitement that we hold our first Lunch with Leadership to conclude Term Two on Friday 3 July. Students selected from our fortnightly raffle and who have received an invitation will join Ms Dee Campbell, Miss Nat Pin and myself for a special catered lunch. Ms Campbell will communicate directly with families regarding this event.

This marks our first Lunch with Leadership following the introduction of our new Behaviour Management Procedures last term. This lunch will be a great celebration of the positive behaviours, in line with our school values, that have been displayed throughout the term

KINDERGARTEN 2027 KINDERGARTEN 2027

I am currently finalising Kindergarten enrolment interviews for 2027. It has been a pleasure meeting with both new and existing families to discuss their child’s prospective enrolment for next year.

If you have not yet submitted an enrolment application for Kindergarten 2027, please do so by Monday 20 July 2026.

PRE-KINDY 2027 AND KINDERGARTEN 2028 PRE-KINDY 2027 AND KINDERGARTEN 2028

We are now accepting enrolment applications for Pre-Kindy 2027 (Three-Year-Old Kindy) and Kindergarten 2028. Interviews for families seeking a place in Pre-Kindy next year, and Kindergarten the following year, will be held next term.

In accordance with Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA) policy, enrolment in Pre-Kindy does not automatically guarantee a place in Kindergarten. Families who wish their child to continue into Kindergarten and beyond from 2028 are therefore required to submit both the Pre-Kindy and Kindergarten–Year Six enrolment applications.

Families will find our updated enrolment application forms on our school website. Please direct any enrolment enquiries to enrolments@stbrigidsms.wa.edu.au, or contact Mrs Victoria Kellaway (Administration Officer, Monday – Wednesday).

NAIDOC Week NAIDOC Week

The national NAIDOC Week theme for 2026, "50 Years of Deadly", marks five decades of celebrating and recognising the histories, cultures, achievements and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

For fifty years, NAIDOC themes have reflected survival, resistance, culture and pride. They have honoured Elders and leaders, celebrated creativity, and challenged the nation to listen, learn and act. Each theme has captured a moment in time, highlighting both the achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the issues that continue to require attention and action.

50 Years of Deadly is both a reflection and a declaration. It acknowledges the strength, resilience and determination of generations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who ensured their voices, cultures and stories continued to be heard and celebrated. It also recognises the organisers, artists, activists and communities who have carried NAIDOC forward year after year, keeping it firmly grounded in culture, community and connection.

NAIDOC Week is more than a single week of celebration. It is an opportunity for truth-telling, learning, reflection and recognition. It celebrates the enduring cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and highlights their leadership across all areas of Australian society.

To celebrate NAIDOC Week, the Cultural Awareness Team has organised a range of activities to be completed throughout the week. These activities will provide opportunities for students and staff to engage with and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, traditions and stories. On Friday, 3 July, students are encouraged to come to school dressed in First Nations and Torres Strait Islander colours or traditional dress as we celebrate and acknowledge the rich cultures and contributions of First Nations peoples.

Waste Free Wednesday Waste Free Wednesday

At St Brigid’s, we are excited to begin our Waste Free Wednesdays as part of our commitment to caring for the environment and “loving our Earth.”

Each Wednesday, we encourage all students and staff to bring a waste-free lunchbox and avoid any plastic wrapping. Together, we can make a big difference… one small change at a time!

✅ Ideas for a waste-free lunch:

• Pack snacks and lunches in reusable containers

🚫 What to avoid:

• Plastic bags, cling wrap, or foil

• Disposable bottles and juice boxes

• Snacks packaged in plastic

Let’s work together to reduce waste and build sustainable habits for our children.

♻️ Saving the planet one Wednesday at a time!

Thank you for your support!

A Message From The Canteen Manager:

Hello my name is Kylie and I have been the Canteen Manager at St Brigid's Primary School for over 12 years.
