PROJECT LIT - SEL Integration with Books
The Counseling Department has launched an advisory program this year throughout our campus. We are incorporating SEL lessons and topics using a book. The Project LIT books focus on Social Emotional Topics that will help teachers, students, and families connect on issues that affect students everyday. Teachers will read aloud from the book each week during advisory.
Our first nine week book was Starfish by Lisa Fipps and our focus was vision of self and future goals. Our second nine week book is Stand Up, Yumi Chung and we will focus on Cultural Implications and Life Changes and Adjustments. Our third nine week book is Becoming Muhammad Ali and our focus will be Coping skills and Relationship skills.
We encourage you to buy these books for your student and yourself!
Base Education
Students will be connecting the PROJECT LIT book with SEL Lessons in Base Education. With over 100 modules designed with student growth in mind, BASE reaches students where they are. Improved social and emotional learning leads to a student more capable of thoughtful responses to life’s circumstances. Modules are enhanced routinely and reflect the latest research results available.
Students will complete a welcome module with their counselor during their first guidance lesson. Teachers have begun implementing Base lessons during advisory. Below are the topics for each month.
August: Vision of Self
September: Future Goals
October: Cultural Implications
November: Life Changes and Adjustments
December: Bullying and Cyberbullying

Personalized Counseling
As we embark to a new year of Personalized Learning we look to ensure our students are College, Career, and Military Ready as part of our focus. We are beyond excited to be a part of this individualized approach to plan our student’s pathway in Humble ISD. Our hope is to help guide our students now and their future after Humble ISD.
Our meetings will focus on getting to know your child and learning about their academic and personal goals. These meetings helped assist your child plan for life beyond high school and learn about what it means to be college and career ready.
Additionally, our counseling program at Woodcreek Middle School serves your child through guidance lessons and small group counseling support. We also want to reach our parents with parent nights throughout the year. We will post send information about our parent nights on our weekly school newsletter, twitter, emails, and counseling quarterly newsletters.
