March 24-28, 2025
Dear Fairfax Families,
Just a reminder that we have a shortened school week! Students have school Monday through Wednesday only. There will be no school on Thursday and Friday this week, and Spring Break runs all next week. School will resume on Monday, April 7th.
Notice from Nurse Spencer: Allergy Season is Here and MetroHealth!
With the warmer weather, we are seeing an increase in allergies, particularly pollen and eye allergies.
Common Symptoms of Eye Allergies in Kids:
πΉ Redness around the eye and in the eyeball
πΉ Itchiness or burning, often leading to eye rubbing
πΉ Watery eyes
πΉ Swollen eyelids
Rubbing the eyes can worsen symptoms. Pollen allergies typically last four to eight weeks.
Tips to Help Manage Allergies:
βοΈ Have your child bathe and change clothes after playing outside.
βοΈ Keep windows closed to prevent pollen from entering the home, especially in bedrooms.
βοΈ Use a cool washcloth on their face and eyes for relief.
βοΈ For children ages 3 and up, OTC antihistamine eye drops like Zaditor (ketotifen) may help.
βοΈ Always consult your childβs doctor before starting any new treatment.
