For Middle School Parents...
The District Attorney's Office and Berkshire County Kids Place will be presenting to our 7th and 8th grade students in December on internet safety. Please read more below:
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
The Berkshire District Attorney’s Office and Berkshire County Kids Place have partnered to
launch cyber safety programming in Berkshire County schools. Teaching our children how to
appropriately participate in the online world is paramount to their safety.
Children interact with the online world in many ways and at many different levels. Some
children have their own personal device, play live games and or have access to social media.
Other children have limited online access and rarely or never operate a personal device outside
of their school day. Regardless of how often your child is online, all children will benefit from
online safety education.
Research shows that children are exposed to content and pressures online far earlier than
caregivers realize. Children are not only faced with navigating online situations, but they also
hear about them from friends and peers. Almost all children will leave 6th grade having either
heard about or having seen something inappropriate online. This can sound scary, however, the
best way to prepare your child for situations like this one is to provide them with opportunities to
learn about safe online behavior.
Students will participate in (2) in-class sessions conducted by Berkshire County Kids Place staff
utilizing the NetSmartz Curriculum. For more information on the NetSmartz program and to
explore the wealth of resources offered, visit https://www.missingkids.org/netsmartz/home.
Thank you to the school community for inviting us to offer this workshop to students. Your
school administration would be happy to answer any questions you may have about the program.
You can also reach out to either of us for more information.
Sincerely,
