Middle School Summer Learning Invitations

Invitations for summer learning were emailed to parents last week. Please check your email to see whether your child was invited. (Additional invitations will be sent the last week of school after OST results are received.) We encourage families to register their child for this free opportunity.

If you have any questions, please contact Nicole Hackman, Supervisor of Secondary Curriculum (nhackman@scsmustangs.org.)

Attendance Progress Challenge

On behalf of the PBIS committee, we are excited to introduce our next Progress Challenge! Starting this Monday, April 15th and going through Monday, May 20th, we will be tracking attendance data for every team. Each week, we will announce grade level winners and award the trophy based upon the highest percentage of students present in school from the previous week. The overall team winners from each grade level will also be awarded a prize to celebrate their achievement once the Progress Challenge is completed.

What We Need From You:

Please have your student(s) prepared and ready to attend school daily unless they are not medically able to do so. We want to end the year strong and attendance is an essential part of education.

Reminders

High Expectations, High Accountability

One focus this year has been on our behavior systems and making sure we are holding our students to the high standards that we have here at SMS. To help with that we've made some changes to our behavior system and discipline.

Detentions

  • No longer after school
  • Will be served at 7:00 am and students need to report at that time to the main office
  • If a detention is not served, they will be give a Saturday detention
  • Saturday detentions will be held at the middle school for 2 hours 8:00-10:00 am

Progressive Discipline for minor behaviors

  • Students can receive 3 detentions then they will be issued a Saturday Detention
  • Then students can receive 3 Saturday Detentions then they will be issued In-School Suspension
  • Then students can receive 3 In-School Suspensions before out of school suspensions will be issued

**This does not include major behaviors according to the hand book.

Handbook

Please access our handbook HERE . It is also available on the website. Students and parents should review this together. Students will also review this with staff as well the first week of school.
