News for the Families of Duval Charter School at Southside
Monday, December 2, 2019
From the Principal:
We are so excited to welcome your students' back to class today after break. They are our WHY: our staff is passionate about educating and caring for your students. Each day we look forward to your child attending school!
December is a busy short month and there are only about twelve days left in the second quarter. We encourage you to ensure that your child attends school each day, on time, ready to learn!
December is also a time in which we begin mid-year assessments to monitor the academic growth of our students. We use the data to plan instruction for the second semester. Please encourage your student(s) to do their best!
December launches third grade tutoring, letters were sent to those in our target groups and then seats are continued to be offered as we get responses from those first groups. January we will start first and second grade tutoring as well.
December 14th we will have Saturday tutoring. An email will be sent out later this week for you to sign up your student for the particular grade and subject they need help to excel: seats will be limited but open to all students.
Each week this newsletter keeps you informed about our many happenings at Duval Charter Southside and we thank you for being an involved member of our Southside family!
~Principal Sauer

Boosterthon
Parents and Families—this year’s main fundraiser is the Southside Stingray Obstacle Challenge! It’s a two-week program that kicks off with a Pep Rally on January 7th. Families will then gather pledges for every obstacle your student completes (30-35 obstacles) at the Southside Stingray Obstacle Challenge, which will happen on Thursday, January 16th. This year our goal is to raise $10,000 for technology, musical instruments and athletic equipment, and we need your help! We’ve asked the experts at Booster to power our fundraiser to make it easier, more profitable, and more fun.
Students will also experience an amazing character theme, MINDSPARK: WILD WEST! Booster’s most exciting theme yet combines S.T.E.A.M. skills (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) with character-building. While they're teaming up with the MindSpark Kids to save Dr. Shock, our students will learn five character traits that will help strengthen themselves and our world.
Donations will go toward technology, musical instruments, and athletic equipment and the entire two-week experience. So please help our school by getting pledges from family and friends and entering them on FUNRUN.COM. Also, all families are invited to come out and cheer on our students at the Southside Stingray Obstacle Challenge. Thanks so much for your support!

!IMPORTANT! Early Release and Half Days !IMPORTANT!
PURPLE days are EARLY RELEASE days- K-5th: 12:45 p.m and Middle: 1:00 p.m
ORANGE DAYS are HALF DAYS- students leave at 12:00 p.m and there is NO AFTERCARE!
The 3 HALF DAYS are scheduled on....
November 26th 2019
December 19th 2019
May 29th 2020
We are having to hire additional personnel to supervise students left behind on Early Release Days, as after-care is full on most days. After the 30 min pick up window, a $15 fee will be assessed. Elementary pick up is 12:45-1:15. Middle School (w/ elem. siblings) is 1:00-1:30.
Aftercare can not absorb all of the late pick ups. We will be billing the $15 late fee and hiring additional staff/substitute teachers for Early Release Days.
