Welcome back fellow Pirates! I am thrilled to join the administrative team at Paseo Academy this year and wanted to introduce myself. I grew up in Kansas City, have taught in Illinois the past twelve years, and am excited to return home. Prior to my work in education, I spent a decade as a professional vocalist with various production companies and cruise ships. My experiences in middle and high school helped prepare me for work in the professional circuit and I look forward to being able to support young musicians, artists, and fine arts students as they prepare for what comes next!

The fine arts, extracurriculars, and academic structure at Paseo will provide you all with some of the most important growth opportunities available to you as students, and I look forward to being a part of your educational journey. As our paths cross throughout the school year please don’t hesitate to reach out or simply say hello. We are ALL Paseo Pirates. Let’s have a wonderful school year working together!

Mr. Jeff Thomas/Vice Principal

Welcome to a new school year! My name is Carla Hubbard, and I am honored to serve as the Family and Community Engagement (FaCE) Liaison at Paseo Academy.

My role is to serve as a bridge between home and school by helping families stay informed, connected, and supported throughout their child's educational journey. Building strong relationships with our families and community is at the heart of everything I do. Whether you have questions, need resources, want to volunteer, or simply need assistance navigating school information, I am here to help.

I believe that communication is one of the most important tools we have for supporting student success. My goal is to make sure every family feels welcomed, heard, and valued. To support that commitment, my office hours are Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and I strive to return all phone calls and emails within 24 hours whenever possible.

To ensure that you receive important school updates, emergency notifications, event information, and messages from teachers and staff, it is extremely important that we have your current phone number and email address on file. If your contact information has changed, please notify the school as soon as possible so we can update our records.

Throughout the school year, you will receive a TalkingPoints message from me labeled "Monthly Check." Please engage with this message and respond when possible. As part of my role, I conduct monthly check-ins with families to make sure everything is okay, answer questions, gather feedback, and connect families with support when needed. These brief check-ins help us stay connected and ensure that every Paseo family feels supported, informed, and valued. Thank you in advance for taking a moment to respond each month. Together, we can continue building strong partnerships that support student success.

As the FaCE Liaison, I support our school community by:

  • Strengthening relationships between Paseo Academy, families, and community partners.
  • Connecting families with resources and services that support academic, social, emotional, and basic needs.
  • Coordinating volunteer and family engagement opportunities.
  • Supporting parent workshops and informational sessions.
  • Assisting with School Advisory Council (SAC) meetings and family participation.
  • Serving as the Paseo Academy webmaster and maintaining timely, accurate information on our website.
  • Managing the school's Facebook page and sharing important announcements, events, and updates.
  • Collaborating with staff and student support teams to advocate for students and families.

Originally from St. Louis, I have called Kansas City home for the past 25 years. I am passionate about building meaningful relationships and creating a supportive environment where families feel connected and empowered.

I look forward to partnering with you throughout the school year. Together, we can ensure that every Paseo scholar has the support and opportunities they need to thrive.

If you have questions, concerns, or need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

The Family Dashboard

At Kansas City Public Schools (KCPS), we know that student success is deeply connected to family and community involvement. This Family Engagement Dashboard highlights the many ways our schools partner with families and communities to build strong, supportive environments for learning.

Compiled by Family and Community Engagement (FaCE) Liaisons at each school, this dashboard offers a transparent look at how we connect with families—from parent leadership meetings to home visits, school events, and local partnerships. It’s a celebration of the hard work happening every day across our district to make sure families feel welcomed, informed, and empowered.
