October 19-23

Hello families,

Week 7 is here, and our focus on gratitude continues. Taking time to notice and appreciate the people, opportunities, and small moments that brighten our days helps build a caring and positive school community. We are grateful for our students, staff, and families who contribute to making our school a wonderful place to learn and grow each day. πŸ‚πŸŽƒ

Halloween Spirit Day (Oct 30) πŸŽƒ Halloween Spirit Day (Oct 30) πŸŽƒ

Get ready for a spooktacular Halloween Spirit Day! Students and staff are invited to wear their Halloween costumes or festive orange and black clothing. Let's celebrate with creativity, fun, and school spirit. Some classes will participate in a school wide parade to share their costumes. We can't wait to see everyone's boo-tiful costumes!

Celebrating Halloween with Kindness Celebrating Halloween with Kindness

Halloween is just around the corner and we ask that costumes are respectful, follow dress codes, and do not promote violence, sexism, racism, or appropriation of culture.

Here are some guidelines to consider when selecting costumes that will be worn at school:

  • Students need to be identifiable and visible to ensure safety. Face paint is welcome; full face masks should be left at home or only worn during the costume parade.
  • Costumes that are sexual in nature or employ questionable props are not appropriate for a school setting.
  • It is encouraged that students do not bring props as they may be forgotten at school and not accessible for Halloween night.
  • Costumes that depict violence, drugs, or alcohol are not appropriate. Fake weapons should be left at home and saved for Halloween night.
  • Let’s choose fun and creative costumes that don’t imitate or stereotype races, cultures, genders, heritage, or religions. Costumes that may offend or reinforce harmful stereotypes are not allowed.

If there is a chance your child will get uncomfortable in their costume during the day, you may wish to have them bring a change of clothes to put on later in the day.

Thank you for helping make Halloween at school a fun day for all.

Happy Halloween!

Grade 5's Visit City Hall

Our Grade 5 students recently had the opportunity to visit City Hall, where they learned about local government and the important role it plays in our community. During their visit, students met with Mayor Popove and Councillor Lum, who shared insights about civic leadership and public service. The experience provided students with a valuable look at how decisions are made in our city and answered many questions from students.

Students at Longhouse

All Grade 3 students in Chilliwack have the opportunity to participate in the Longhouse Extension Program. We are honoured to support this meaningful learning experience by providing student dancers who help enrich the program for participants from across the district. This photo captures our students closing the morning's learning with a traditional dance performance.
