The RocketReviewSOARing to New Heights- February 21-25, 2022

Dear Rocket Families,

Need a translation? ترجمہ کی ضرورت ہے؟ ¿Necesitas una traducción? بحاجة الى ترجمة؟ ਇੱਕ ਅਨੁਵਾਦ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ? 번역이 필요하세요? अनुवाद चाहिए? 翻訳が必要ですか? Besoin d'une traduction ?

I want to thank you all for your commitment to create a safe environment for ALL of our students to learn in-person. As the LA County Department of Public Health (LACDPH) guidelines change, the district is sharing updates with us at the school site around the use of masks, weekly testing, and vaccination, and when and if the COVID-19 metrics were to allow for such adjustments to take place.

We would like to share with you the recent changes to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH) guidelines regarding masks in TK-12 settings; and based on these new guidelines how the CCUSD mask protocols are being adjusted.

Effective Tuesday, February 22, 2022:

  • Outdoors: Masks will be optional for all CCUSD staff and students outdoors on school property.

  • Indoors: Masks (KF94/N95) are still required for all CCUSD staff and students indoors on school property.

Parents and caregivers may communicate outdoor mask-wearing expectations with their children. El Rincon, however, will not be enforcing mask-wearing when students are outdoors.

All volunteers on campus will be required to show proof of Covid vaccination status as well as wear a K95/KF94 mask while indoors.

It has been a long journey for us in doing all we can to support and protect our students and staff, and we are hopeful that we are approaching some relief from this pandemic. CCUSD appreciates your help and will continue to monitor LACDPH guidance to make appropriate adjustments as needed.

With Rocket Pride,

Dr. Hodge

SPOTLIGHT ON: KIA LAZARRE

A big WELCOME to Mrs. Lazarre, who has stepped in while our school librarian is on leave. Mrs. Lazarre is no stranger to our school campus. She is the proud mother of a 4th grader and has always been active in the PTA and volunteering around campus. Here are a few things you may not know about Mrs. Lazarre:

  • She is a proud veteran of the Marine Corps.
  • She is a talented artist!
  • Her husband is Haitian, and she knows a lot about Haitian culture.
  • She loves to organize and clean (lucky us!)
  • When asked what she likes about working in the library, she shared that she loves helping the students and staff and connecting them with books they need.
If you see Mrs. Lazarre in the library, please say thank you for being here!

SPOTLIGHT on DELMY and LOURDES:

Every wonder who keeps the cafeteria bright and cheery and full of yummy fruit and veggies? It's our awesome cafeteria staff Ms. Delmy (on the left) and Ms. Lourdes (on the right). They have both been on campus, even when school was closed, to prepare grab and go lunches for families in the community and them for all of our ROCKETS when we reopened. They are positive and kind with all of our students and make lunchtime fun. We thank you both for ALL you do each day!

If you happen to see Ms. Delmy or Ms. Lourdes, please say THANK YOU for making our cafeteria

a place of joy!

Our Shared Learning: Black Health and Wellness

This year, The Black History Month 2022 theme, “Black Health and Wellness,” explores "the legacy of not only Black scholars and medical practitioners in Western medicine, but also other ways of knowing (e.g., birthworkers, doulas, midwives, naturopaths, herbalists, etc.) throughout the African Diaspora. The 2022 theme considers activities, rituals and initiatives that Black communities have done to be well."

The El Rincon Diversity & Equity PTA Committee Presents "Change Sings: A Showcase of El Rincon Art & Poetry"

In celebration of Black History Month, we will be sharing art and poetry submitted by the El Rincon community and creating our own during a fun, interactive poetry workshop.

February 28, 2022, from 6:30-7:30 pm

All month, we are asking our school community to imagine what

CHANGE they would like to see or make in the world. All members of our El Rincon community (including scholars, teachers, parents/guardians, and others) are invited to participate.

We hope to see a lot of participation and diverse representation from our PTA community!

Respond with a poem, drawing, photo, song, music, or another form of

creative expression. Create your own or choose one that inspires you!

Submit your original or chosen art/poetry and we'll feature it during our virtual showcase.

Submissions can be made by uploading your video, audio, or photo here (https://tinyurl.com/4nk46jcw) by February 24th.

In addition to hosting this virtual showcase, the PTA Diversity & Equity Committee is pleased to provide the El Rincon library and classrooms with copies of:

Amanda Gorman's The Hill We Climb and Change Sings, Nikki Giovanni's Hip Hop Speaks to Children: A Celebration of Poetry with a Beat, and Poetry for Young People: Langston Hughes.

All books were purchased from Eso Won Books, an acclaimed, local Black-owned bookstore.
