STAAR EOC Exam

This year your child will be required to take 3 of the 5 STAAR End of Course (EOC) exams that are required to be passed in order to graduate. Your child will test in English 1, Algebra, and Biology. We will be offering additional support to students during the school day, after school through tutorials, and one Saturdays through Saturday School. It is IMPERATIVE that you encourage your child to take advantage of these opportunities AND to do their absolute best each and every day. Your son/daughter will NOT graduate if they do not pass their STAAR EOC Exams.

Accelerated Instruction

In June 2021, the state of Texas passed HB 4545, a new state law that requires schools to provide 30 additional hours of instruction to students who are unsuccessful on one or more of their STAAR exams. Families have been contacted regarding those students that are required to participate in this additional instruction, but we need your support in ensuring that your child logs in DAILY to the computer programs designed to help them earn these hours. All computer programs can be accessed at home and it is STRONGLY suggested that students not only use their time at school to get hours completed, but to do hours at home as well. We need your help in helping your child.

Credits

As your child begins their high school experience, it is important to be aware of the importance of earning credits. All high school students are required to earn a minimum of 26 credits in order to graduate from high school. At the ninth grade level, your child has the opportunity to earn a minimum of 6 of these credits. Credits are earned by passing their classes with a grade or 70 or higher AND attending class at least 90% of the time. Failure to do either of these will result in your child not earning their credit and not graduating on time. Credits are given at the end of each semester. Your child will see the credits they have earned on their semester report card in January, which can be accessed through your Home Access Center account. If your child sees 0.5 after the course on their report card, CONGRATULATIONS, the credit was earned. If they see 0.0, they did not earn that credit and may have to take the course again through summer school or repeat the course next year. Please encourage your child to take EVERY class seriously and do their best each day. Credits matter...attendance matters...grades in all classes matter. We need your help to make sure your child is successful.

Campus COVID Testing

Aldine ISD is partnering with the City of Houston to provide COVID testing to all staff and students. You have received information regarding the required documents needed for participation in this program and this information is highlighted on our district webpage. If you are interested in having your child tested, a consent form will need to be completed and submitted for our records. You can find the information regarding the details of this program on the district webpage.
