News From Our Administration Team News From Our Administration Team

Dear Huskies,

Unfortunately, we did not have enough students sign up for summer school classes to staff the

program. That said, if you are in need of credit recovery over the summer, you may take high

school courses through BYU. Only the core subjects are offered for credit recovery. If you failed

semester 1 of a course, you sign up for Part 1, if you failed semester 2 of a course, you would sign

up for Part 2. If you failed an elective course, you may sign up for the full class with either BYU

or eDCSD.

If you are looking to grade replace (grade replace is retaking a full course, and the new grade

is the only grade that factors into your GPA), you will need to take a course through eDCSD.

Their enrollment deadline for summer school is June 3rd. Here is a link to their summer school

offerings. You will need to let your counselor know if you want to grade replace as

they need to submit a form on your behalf.

PLEASE NOTE for Athletics Eligibility:

If a DCHS athlete fails two or more classes during the second semester of the 2025/2026 school

year, they will be ineligible to participate in any fall or the beginning of the winter sports season.

However, they can regain their athletic eligibility by successfully completing summer school

classes to replace the subjects they failed. Athletes must enroll in and pass the necessary

summer school classes to immediately resume participation in athletics. To remain eligible, all

DCHS athletes are required to take five full-credit classes and maintain no more than one failing

grade. Students with two or more Fs will be deemed ineligible.

It's also critical to understand that failing the "Personal Project" class affects athletic eligibility.

For instance, failing both English and Personal Project means you will be ineligible for sports in

both the fall and early winter due to having two failing grades.

*If you are planning on playing sports in college, you will need to make sure the

course is NCAA-approved by looking at the icon next to the course.

Recovery options:

Students will need to pass the same summer school course that they failed to regain eligibility

and credit. Personal Project can be any elective course in summer school to regain eligibility.

Being aware of these rules helps ensure that all student-athletes can participate in sports while

fulfilling their academic obligations.

For any questions regarding athletic eligibility, please contact Shawn Larkin, the DCHS Athletic

Director, at smlarkin@dcsdk12.org.

Thank you for your understanding!

SHOWCASE SHOWCASE

Attention 9th-11th graders

DCSD requires 20 hours of community service for graduation. This needs to be turned in by May 1st of your senior year and summer is a great time to start working on this! You can find ideas for community service on Volunteer Castle Rock or this list.. This is not a comprehensive list; as long as it is a non-profit (not a business), you should be able to log those hours. Here are the instructions for logging community service hours.

Our Free Summer Lunch Program is coming soon!

Please send the attached flyers out to your community so they know where to find free lunch near them. This program is open to ANY child 18 years of age and under.

Health Room Updates

Wishing all of our amazing families a wonderful, happy, and healthy summer break! Please read the following information and see the attached forms to stay up to date about news from our health room.

As we look forward to partnering with you for a fantastic school year ahead, we want to make sure we are fully prepared to support your student’s health and wellness from day one. To help us hit the ground running in August, here is a quick guide on how we can work together to get everything ready:

💊Storing Medication in the Health Room:

If your student will need to have medication kept in the health room next year, please complete the attached forms and email them directly to me at mbkorell@dcsdk12.org.

  • Prefer a different way to send them? No problem! We want to give you options that work best for your family. Because email standardly may not be encrypted, you are also more than welcome to fax the forms to 303-387-1001 or drop off a hard copy at the front office when we return in August.

🎒 High School Self-Carry Reminder:

For our high school students who prefer to self-carry their medication, you're all set—no paperwork is required! To help them stay safe and follow school guidelines, please just ensure:

  • They only bring one single day's dose at a time.

  • The medication remains in its original, pharmacy-labeled container.

💉 Keeping Immunizations & Exemptions Current:

Let's work together to keep our entire school community healthy! Please take a quick moment this summer to ensure your student's immunizations are up to date.

  • Important Note on Exemptions: If your family utilizes signed exemptions, just a friendly reminder that the state requires these to be renewed annually for the new school year. To make sure your exemption is valid for the 26-27 year, please visit the state website AFTER JULY 1st to complete the update. (Please note that any exemptions signed before July 1st cannot be accepted for the upcoming school year).

  • JLCD-E-1 - Student Prescription and OTC Medication Request and Release Agreement Form

  • Provider Medication Authorization Form - Rev 8.2.19 Form

Thank you so much for your incredible collaboration and support in keeping our school safe, healthy, and ready to learn. Enjoy every moment of your summer, and I can't wait to see you all in August!

  • JLCD-E-1 - Student Prescription and OTC Medication Request and Release Agreement Form

  • Provider Medication Authorization Form - Rev 8.2.19 Form
