Character Education Word of the Week: BULLDOG BOLD

This week, we are continuing our focus on BOLD—Brave, Optimistic, Leaders, and Determined. At Bass Middle School, we believe leadership is built through the choices students make every day. Following safety expectations, treating others with respect, speaking up when something is wrong, and making responsible decisions are all opportunities to practice leadership. Being Bulldog BOLD is more than a motto—it is our commitment to Building Outstanding Leaders Daily and creating a safe, positive school where every Bulldog can succeed.

Attendance Matters!

Every school day matters. Regular attendance helps students build strong academic habits, stay connected to classroom learning, and develop meaningful relationships with their teachers and classmates. While we understand that appointments and family trips are sometimes unavoidable, we encourage families to plan them during scheduled school breaks whenever possible. By maximizing time in the classroom, we give every Bulldog the best opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed. At Bass Middle School, Every Day Counts because every day is another chance to be Bulldog BOLD.

Attendance Notes

Please email all attendance notes to BMS Attendance: Bassattendance@cowetaschools.net.

Backpack Buddies

Backpack Buddies is a non-profit organization that provides a little extra food on the weekend for students in Coweta County. Backpack Buddies supplies students with nutritious, self-serve food that will sustain them when school meals are not available. Four times a year, when students are out for longer school breaks, Backpack Buddies sends home a larger bag of food to help them during that extended break from school.

The Backpack Buddies program is essential to help relieve hunger, which in turn will improve grades, health, school attendance and self-esteem in these children. If you are interested in signing your student up for the Backpack Buddies program, fill out the attached form and sign giving Backpack Buddies permission to send food home every Friday with your student.

How Students Can See a Counselor

Students may request to meet with a counselor by filling out the Google Form on the Counseling Department webpage. Counselors can help with friendship concerns, stress, family changes, academic challenges, conflict, and other situations affecting a student’s success at school.

August Counselor Tip: Give It Time

The beginning of a new school year can feel exciting, stressful, or both! New schedules, teachers, classmates, and routines may take a few weeks to feel comfortable. Encourage your student to give themselves time to adjust, ask questions, and reach out when they need support.

Counseling Department Wishlist

Our counseling team is always looking for ways to better support our students! We’ve created an Amazon Wishlist with items for our Hygiene Station, Small Groups, and Incentives. If you’d like to support, we’d be so grateful! Every item makes a difference.

Thank you so much for your continued support- it means the world to us and to our students.

Cell phones and smart watches may not be used during the instructional day and must be on silent and put away in student's backpacks at all times. Backpacks will be placed in lockers each morning until the end of the day. Students are permitted to use the designated student phone located in the office during school hours for emergencies or for illness. Students should not use a cell phone or smartwatch to call home or text when sick. Any student who is ill should go through the Bass clinic. The school nurse will call parents directly. Calling home for homework, a school project, or to make arrangements to attend an after school event that wasn't previously arranged is not permitted.

We appreciate your support of this policy so we can minimize interruptions to learning and ensure that all students feel safe and free of distractions.
