Pi Day activities were lively as students pied their teachers, engaged in a spirited competition to memorize the most digits of pi, and enjoyed a little pie themselves. Fun, laughter, and mathematics combined to make a memorable celebration. Many thanks to the OMS mathematics PLC for organizing the Pi Day event!

During the week of February 12th, I had the pleasure of volunteering at the Laura Anderson Elementary School in the Bahamas. The Tabernacle School District was kind enough to donate 8 iPads to the school as a way of introducing technology to the students. Two of the students I worked most closely with were Jacob and Wadens. Some of the amazing things that took place during my time there were when we used Playdoh to make letters of the alphabet, working on letter sounds, and designing Valentine’s cards. I had the pleasure of working with the 3rd grade class during their reading time. The students acted out the scenes in the book as I read it to them. Additionally, the 5th grade class invited me to join them for their math centers with multiplication and division using a case water bottles. The students also helped pass out snacks throughout the school. I purchased the snacks and water at a local grocery store. On my last day in the Bahamas, I joined a group of locals to help pick up trash along Queen’s Highway. It was an experience I will never forget.
