Paine Elementary Named CLAS Banner School Paine Elementary Named CLAS Banner School

Paine is a 2024 CLAS Banner School

Earlier this month, CLAS recognized thirty-two Schools of Distinction across the eight State School Board Districts and announced the 2024 CLAS Banner Schools during an awards luncheon in Prattville, Alabama. We are pleased to announce that Paine Elementary has been selected as one of the eight CLAS Banner Schools!

The CLAS Banner School program was created in 2001 to recognize schools in Alabama that showcase outstanding programs and service to students. Each school was nominated for this award by their superintendent with 234 schools nominated statewide.

HTMS Unified Basketball Game

What an incredible day at HTMS! Their Unified Basketball Game brought the energy and the spirit as Team Red faced off against Team White in front of a packed gym full of cheering fans! Both teams showed amazing teamwork, sportsmanship, and heart on the court. Thank you to all the students, staff, PTO members, and supporters who made today so special — this is truly what #WeareHT means!

The Voice Visits HTMS and HTHS

For our culminating event after a year of working with the high school leadership team, the Cahaba leadership team, the Voice, took a field trip to HTMS and HTHS to allow our students the opportunity to experience and learn about leadership across the system. Our students met with the MUSH mentors and counselors at HTMS to talk about what they are looking for in leaders at this level. Then, our Voice team met with the leadership students at the high school to talk about the opportunities at the next level for leadership and get advice on how to prepare for that. Dr. Martin, Mr. King, and Coach Mauldin also joined our field trip to share about leadership characteristics throughout life and how these are needed in many different settings. This allowed all three elements of Trussville City Schools education to work together to show our students why leadership is so valuable at any age.

Magnolia's Journey through the Genres Magnolia's Journey through the Genres

Magnolia Takes a Journey Through the Genres

Magnolia Elementary students spent the school year on a literary adventure, participating in Journey through the Genres, a year-long reading program designed to introduce them to a wide range of genres including picture books, mystery, fantasy, historical fiction, folk tales, fairy tales, tall tales, fables, nonfiction, biographies, graphic novels, poetry, and fiction. Each month, students explored a different genre, broadening their reading horizons.

The program was the creative idea of Mrs. Cindy Burns, a first-grade teacher at Magnolia, who envisioned a fun, goal-oriented way to encourage students to read more widely. With the support of her daughter, Lily, she also helped create The Reading Outpost, a mobile prize cart that became a much-anticipated feature throughout the school.

Students who met their grade-level reading requirements earned the opportunity to visit The Reading Outpost, where those meeting the grade-level requirements each month could select a special prize. These students' names were also entered into a drawing for a $50 gift card.

Special thanks go out to Dr. Phyllis Faust, Magnolia’s principal, for her enthusiastic support of the program. Each month, Dr. Faust led the students as they visited The Reading Outpost, turning book selection into an exciting event. She was joined by School Resource Officer Brown, who assisted in delivering the magic of reading to students.

At the awards assemblies, one lucky winner per grade level was drawn: Kindergarten - Adalyn, First Grade - Fiona, Second Grade - Scarlett, Third Grade - Bella, Fourth Grade - Ava, and Fifth Grade - Reed. Each winner received a $50 gift card. Thanks to JW Woods, serving as Assistant Principal for the day, and Mrs. Cindy Burns for helping Dr. Faust draw the winning tickets and to all the teachers and staff who supported students on their Journey through the Genres.

The success of Journey through the Genres stands as a testament to the power of creativity, collaboration, and a deep commitment to student literacy.

Honoring Mrs. Shorter, Mrs. Odom, and Mrs. Peggy at Cahaba

As we celebrate the retirements of Mrs. Shorter, Mrs. Odom, and Mrs. Peggy, we reflect on the joy, care, and dedication they have poured into our school. Mrs. Shorter, a master kindergarten teacher, leaves behind a legacy of love and learning. Arthur said, “She lets us do special things,” while Cate recalled, “She made a field trip at The Botanical Gardens. It was so much fun!” Older students remember her lasting influence too—Zeeya shared, “She made sure we were on track and helped us learn how to read,” and Nora said, “She always had a smile on her face and she was always prepared to teach.”

Mrs. Odom, our joyful second-grade teacher, brought laughter and warmth into every corner of the classroom. Her students treasured her energy and affection—Colt said, “I like the sparkle game we play to learn spelling,” and Amelia Claire added, “I love how she gives us a hug every day.” Caroline, now in fifth grade, shared, “I like that she called us her little owls because we were so smart.” Mrs. Odom’s love for her students and colleagues was always expressed out loud, creating a nurturing and joyful place for all.

And in the heart of our school was Mrs. Peggy, our beloved lunchroom manager, who combined hard work with constant kindness. Caroline said, “She is super sweet and always smiling,” while Charlotte noted, “She smiles even when she is busy and working hard.” William added, “She is always nice and reminds us to get fruit.” With her festive decorations and warm demeanor, Mrs. Peggy made the cafeteria a place where every student felt welcome. Together, these three women leave behind not just memories, but a legacy of love and excellence that will forever shape our school.
