As we have reached the end of the year we celebrate the successes we have had and look forward to the summer break. It is also an emotional time as we say goodbye to our Year 6's who we will miss terribly but know that they are ready for their next step and wish them all the best of luck. Mr George is also leaving us this year and we wish him all the best and are sure he will keep in touch. Miss Lamming has some exciting news to share as she is planning on starting university in January inspired by her ELSA work at school. This does mean that Miss Lamming will be leaving us this week in the office but she will remain as our school ELSA so we will still get to see her each week. On our return in September, we will however have to get used to calling her Mrs Wood as she is getting married in August so keep an eye out on our social media for photos. We wish her and her future husband a lifetime of happiness together. We are very sad too to say goodbye to two boys Oliver and Thomas who are joining their local school but I am sure they will keep in touch and let us know how they are doing. I hope you love your new school boys and remember you will always be a part of our school family.
In September, we have two new team members joining our family. Miss James joins us as our Rubies class teacher teaching Year Two and Ms Richards is joining the office team. We are also excited to welcome back Mrs Fishburn to our new after-school provision as we have really missed her.
In this final newsletter of the year, we hope you will enjoy reading about what we have been up to. There is also information on things to look forward to next year, diary dates for the new academic year, class information, more information on our extended opening hour, ideas for days out and summer holiday fun plus deals on eating out this summer.
I hope that you all have a wonderful summer holidays and have lots of fun. We look forward to welcoming you back on Wednesday 3rd September. If you need anything during the holidays please feel free to email the school office.
School's out for summer!

Little Pearls Learning Update
Throughout our final half term in Little Pearls we have been learning about different animals and farms, exploring through play, ensuring we continue to provide exciting provision, which links to the children's learning and development intents.
Our learning intents:
Week 1 - We focused on building children's vocabulary and confidence in talking in their play.
Week 2 - We have focused on mark making, especially in our squiggle whilst we wiggle activities and for our older children we have been practicing writing their names.
Week 3- Exploring paint using fingers and brushes, expressing myself through colours and shapes. And for the older children to add details to their drawings
Week 4- Exploring Tools: Learning to use different materials and tools, practicing manipulation and control. And for the older nursery children to use scissors to snip the paper.
Week 6 - Learning about minibeasts and exploring our natural world.
Week 6 - Eating healthy snacks and recognising why we need to rest / wash and eat healthy foods.
Week 7 - Enjoying celebrations and end of term activities.
During our first week we have been looking at where different foods come from.
We have been learning where milk comes from, in the creative area, the children have enjoyed exploring pretending to milk cows using the paint and water!
This was not only very fun and messy but also supported the children's physical development and their knowledge of understanding
To support developing language and communication in our Little Pearls we have engaged in lots of small world play.
Through small world play, children begin to structure sentences and tell sequential stories. They have been creating their own stories, where they use and explore new words and language and use these to narrate their play.
We have had some very exciting visitors this month, some little chicks came for the day, for the children to look after, we spoke about how the chicks change as they grow and speak about the differences we notice as they change, we continued this caring nature on whilst playing in our outdoor area on the field, where we have been caring for snails and noticing different insects we can spot.
We have also enjoyed an exciting trip to Acorn Hollow Farm, where we got to feed some sheep and meet some cheeky goats, as well as exploring the farm, making pies in the mud kitchen, enjoying smores around the campfire and going on bug hunts.
This tied in perfectly with our own outdoor learning, where we have been busy painting what we can see in our natural world, using big movements to paint on different materials. The older children added lots of details to their paintings of sunflowers, using colours for a purpose.
We have been enjoyed lots of bug hunts on the field and during national minibeast week we threw an Ugly Bug Ball, where we decorated ladybird biscuits, dancing to music, moving like minibeasts, reading lots of bug stories and playing bug games.
Our maths intent this month was:
To say numbers in order. Noticing numerals and beginning to count on their fingers and using positional language.
We have done this through active games, finding different objects both inside and outside to count and sort them into areas, counting as we jump on the tyres, playing 'What time is it Mr Wolf?' Drawing and using numbers for our carparks and using our fingers to count out objects in our play such as seeds, whilst planting our sunflowers and playing hide and seek, using language under, on top and next too.
We had a go at making our own obstacle courses to practice moving our bodies under and over.
The children have continued to enjoy daily dough disco and squiggle whilst we wiggle (and flappers). These fun gross and fine motor movement activities are benefiting their mark making and we can see lots of progress since starting the programme at the beginning of the year.
During the final week we have had lots of fun in nursery, including our graduation where we said goodbye to our older N2s who are heading off to Reception in September, followed by a party with lots of food, dancing and fun. For our reading reward we enjoyed a morning full of bouncing on the bouncy castles which was a morning full of giggles and smiles.
We are SO proud of all our Little Pearls this year, they have each made amazing personal progress and we have loved being part of their journey. We can't wait to see you all again next year.
Our Learning
Pearls
It has been a wonderful year in Pearls and we are incredibly proud of all of the children. The progress we have seen from them is incredible and it has been a pleasure to teach each and every one of them.
This half term our theme was ‘Food and Farming’.
We started our theme by looking at farms, and the animals and vehicles you would find there. We also looked at the job of a farmer focusing on where milk and eggs come from. We learnt about the lifecycle of a chicken, and we started planting peas and beans in our outdoor area. The following week we read the story ‘Dear Zoo’ and we adapted it to write our own version ‘Dear Farm’, we used our phonics to write sentences choosing a different farm animal. During this week had some visitors in our class, as Rachel (Oscar’s Mum) kindly brought in the chicks from her nursery, we all thoroughly enjoyed having them for the day! A big thank you to Rachel for bringing them in. As the half term continued, we learnt about minibeasts and the lifecycle of butterflies and bees. We also enjoyed reading ‘The hungry caterpillar’ and ‘The bad-tempered ladybird’, we have drawn story maps and reviewed the stories too. We learnt about how farming has changed over the years, and we have identified which farming photographs were from the past and which are from present day. Our focus changed slightly, as we learnt about where our food comes from, some of us learnt that the carrots we buy in supermarkets are grown in fields. We also learnt about different types of foods and we have talked about which foods are good for us and which foods we can have as a treat! We enjoyed the stories of ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’ and ‘Olivers Fruit Salad’ both books by the same author Vivian French. We also read ‘Sam’s Sandwich’ which we liked, as he had a range of minibeasts and bugs in his sandwich, yuck! We talked about our favourite foods and we also designed a horrible sandwich too!
We have had lots of lovely events this summer, we enjoyed having our Dad’s to lunch. In the classroom, we talked about all the things our Dad's do for us. We had a super sunny sports day and we were all very proud of how well all the children did! We visited to Acorn Hallow Farm, where we enjoying playing and exploring in the outdoors, we feed sheep and goats and talked about their features, such as why some had horns, but others haven’t. We all loved having a hot chocolate and a biscuit round the fire listening to the story of ‘Super worm’. We had a super outdoor learning day!
In maths lessons, we have been focusing on ‘Sharing and Grouping’ in maths lessons. We have been sharing objects between our friends and talking about amounts that cannot be shared equally (eg. 10 cubes shared between 3 children) we have also recapped on recognising odd and even numbers and how to double numbers. We moved onto ‘Visualise, build and map’ when we focused on using positional language to describe where objects are in relation to each other. We have also created more complexed repeating patterns, and we enjoyed looking at maps and creating our own 3D map.
In our provision we changed our role play area into a ‘Farm shop’. Our sand area now contains farm vehicles, that dig and move the sand! We have enjoyed playing with our small world farm area. We are continuing to move water using various pipes and containers and we have been building farms and animal enclosures with our construction blocks and kits. As a focus this half term, we have been playing games that involve counting and writing numbers, games such as hopscotch.
We have had a busy half term and we hope you all enjoy a well-earned break this summer!
Rubies
What a year we have had! As we approach the end of the academic year, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what a wonderful year it has been for our children. I am continually amazed by their enthusiasm, hard work, and the remarkable progress they have made throughout the year.
What an amazing set of children you have! We have thoroughly enjoyed teaching them this year, it has been a privilege to watch them all grow in size and confidence.
This week has been particularly special, as we celebrated with a reading reward event. The children truly bounced the afternoon away on the bouncy castles, followed by the delight of indulging in ice cream. The graduation ceremony was equally heartwarming, as everyone enjoyed celebrating each other’s achievements together.
We have recently shared our favourite moments of the year with one another. It is safe to say that some of the children favourite moments where the trips we have taken this year. Murton Park at Christmas, The Streetlife museum and The Deep. The children were fully engaged in each of these visits and were an absolute credit to Swinefleet Primary.
Throughout the year, our focus on developing writing skills has proven fruitful, with the children creating imaginative stories about space, aliens, and rockets. Their creativity shone through as they wrote detailed instructions on how to fly a rocket to the moon – zoom!
One of the highlights of our year has certainly been the science curriculum. The children have shown fantastic interest in learning about lifecycles, the human body, and various animals. Particularly memorable was our unit on seasonal changes; observing the school's outdoor area throughout the different times of the year allowed the children to witness firsthand the beauty and transformation of nature. This hands-on experience truly engaged them and deepened their understanding.
What a wonderful learning journey we have embarked on this year. It has been a pleasure to have your children engage so enthusiastically with a diverse range of topics. From our explorations into the lives of world explorers, the inspiring work of Florence Nightingale during the Crimean War, to discovering the unique landscapes and cultures of Australia and Africa, every topic has sparked great curiosity and discussion.
We are immensely proud of each child and the progress they have made since September. The difference is quite outstanding, and they should all feel incredibly proud of their accomplishments. It has been a joy to watch them grow, not just academically but also in their ability to support and care for one another. They truly are a wonderful bunch, and their care for one another is lovely to witness.
As we look forward to the next term, I encourage you to continue this enthusiasm for learning at home. Engaging your children in discussions about what they have learned can reinforce their knowledge and foster a love for exploration. Simple activities such as nature walks or visits to local museums could stimulate their interest further and provide valuable real-world connections to the topics we have covered.
Thank you for your continued support throughout the year. Let us finish on a high note and celebrate the achievements of our incredible children together!
We wish you all a wonderful summer with your families
Mrs Clarkson, Mrs Marshall and Mrs Hinchey
Diamonds
As we wrap up another wonderful year in Year 3 and 4, we couldn’t be prouder of everything we have achieved! Here's a look back at some of the fantastic learning we've shared:
This term, our classes explored the fascinating world of shapes, angles, and graphs. From spotting right angles in the classroom to creating colourful bar charts and pictograms, our mathematicians have developed skills to help them investigate and explain the world around them.
In Science, we lit up the classroom (safely!) as we learned all about electricity. The children loved making simple circuits and experimenting with different materials to find out which conduct electricity and which are insulators.
Our RE lessons took us around the world (and into our own hearts) as we explored the idea of sacred spaces. We reflected on what makes a space special to people of different faiths and cultures, and even created our own versions of peaceful, meaningful spaces.
In Geography, the children became river experts! We followed the journey of a river from source to sea, learning how rivers shape the land and support life. From meanders to deltas, the curiosity and enthusiasm shown was inspiring.
One of the highlights this term was diving into the classic story "The Wind in the Willows". The children loved meeting Mole, Rat, Toad, and Badger, and their creative responses to the story were fantastic. We finished with a special treat – watching the film together, complete with popcorn and plenty of smiles!
Our digital whizzes have become spreadsheet superstars in Computing. They learned how to organise data, use basic formulas, and present information clearly – setting them up with useful skills for the future.
A huge well done to all of our Year 3 and 4 pupils for their hard work, creativity, and enthusiasm this year. You've all grown so much – not just in your learning, but in your confidence, kindness, and teamwork.
We wish you all a joyful and restful summer break!
Sapphires
Well, what a year it has been in the Sapphires, we cannot believe it is over, it has flown!
The main event this half term of course has to be Cinderella Rockerfella! All of the children sang, danced and acted remarkably. Thank you again to Mrs. Harrison and Mrs. Dean for all their efforts with acting, singing, costumes and props!
SATs results were something that all the children worked so hard for. They really were amazing results that the children should be so proud of. The Y6 children have completed their transition and enjoyed their taste of high school. The Y6 also had the excitement of camping!
The Sapphires had the opportunity to study Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth this half term. The children produced some wonderful prologues, prophecies and speeches in the role of Lady Macbeth.
In guided reading, Sapphires have finished Cosmic and are currently enjoying The House with Chicken Legs although we unfortunately did not have the opportunity to finish this book.
Another highlight for this half term has to be the Reading Reward. It was wonderful to see all the children getting gold and enjoying the bouncy castles, penalty shoot-out and water fights!
The sunshine came out for Dads to lunch and it was lovely to see all the children and their parents enjoying some time together.
In maths, the Sapphires have focussed on number, place value and decimals. A teacher from Snaith School gave them a taster maths session and the children have been completing lots of investigations such as how to find the perfect number.
In Science, the children have investigated planets and the solar system. They created moon phases using oreos and drama work to show the orbit of the sun, moon and earth.
In PE, the children have enjoyed Fit 4 Life sessions with Jordan which has also included some smoothie making!
As part of our careers-based learning this half term, someone from Drax came in and delivered a careers presentation giving children the opportunity to consider their aspirations and dream jobs. Also, a visitor from Quickline came to discuss the dangers of the internet. The school nurse came and taught the pupils about their changing bodies and puberty. Finally, the fire service came in and talked through fire safety.
Four Y5 children had the opportunity to present all our STEM learning from this half term and earned a Global Bronze STEM award for the class - well done Sapphires!
Best trip ever!!! The quote from most of the children after a day of paddle boarding, kayaking and team games at Welton Waters.
The leavers assembly was an emotional affair where the Y6s shared their memories and sang a song. It was wonderful to watch the photographs and see all the children dressed up for graduation.
Good luck to the Y6s as they transition to secondary school and we can’t wait to welcome Sapphires back in September where there is plenty to look forward to including Egyptian inspiration day, Drax and Skylark visit, Careers Fair. Egyptian trip, Egyptian exhibition for parents, European Day of Languages and Peacemakers!
The Sapphires team (Mrs. Dean, Mrs. Harrison and Mrs. Wilde) would like to wish you all a Happy Summer Holidays!!! Stay safe and enjoy the rest.

Relationships Support from East Riding
We know that conflict is a normal part of relationships, and we also know that it's not conflict that is the problem, but how we deal with it.
Evidence shows that ongoing, poorly-resolved conflict can have a damaging effect on children’s well-being and happiness. The Relationship Matters website provides tips and support local to you and within the site, there are some great tools, such as the Amity's Little Book of Relationship Care, and links to a broad range of websites, including Mind, and the One Plus One site, which supports separating parents to handle arguments better.
There is also Separating Better, a useful app for families going through separation.
