A Note from the Principal
Greetings Sanborn!
I hope everyone enjoyed the extra hour of sleep that this weekend brought and perhaps a bit of Halloween fun. It was great to see all of the Halloween costumes on Friday, staff and students alike dressed to impress - the creativity is always amazing!
This past week our Middle and High School Youth in Action groups put together a great Red Ribbon Week for all students. The focus of the week is substance abuse prevention and each day in the lunchroom a different activity was available for students, and we also had different themes for attire each day, ending the week with Halloween costumes. A special thank you to the students and advisors for making this happen!
Tuesday afternoon our Varsity Girls' Soccer team headed to Hopkinton for the first round of play-offs; it was a hard fought battle until the end. Although the outcome wasn't what we had hoped for, we are proud of the team, their high level of competition, and the great sportsmanship that represented Sanborn!
As we look to the week ahead, Quarter two will be officially underway with quarter one closing out this past Friday. Monday and Wednesday will bring an opportunity to celebrate student achievement! Monday all high school students will gather together in the auditorium for a brief awards ceremony where students will be recognized for their hard work throughout quarter one, and will have a sneak peek of the first scene of the fall play, Queens. Wednesday will bring a similar opportunity for all middle school students, with recognition of students and a brief performance of our very talented middle school chorus. While students enjoy a day off on Tuesday, we look forward to welcoming many families to the building for our annual parent/teacher conferences.
Let's make it a great week, Sanborn!
Veterans Day Breakfast
On Tuesday, November 10, Sanborn Regional Middle and High School will host a Veterans Day Breakfast, beginning what we hope will become an annual tradition in our community.
Veterans from the surrounding area are invited to join us for a warm breakfast as we express our gratitude for their service and sacrifice. While we ask nothing in return, we hope our guests will take the opportunity to connect with our students, share stories and experiences from their time in the service, and offer a glimpse into the life of a military service member.
Following breakfast, all students in grades 6–12 and our veteran guests will gather in the gymnasium for a Veterans Day recognition assembly. Our assembly will share information about the history of Veterans Day, include performances by the high school chorus and band, and will feature a Veteran guest speaker.
We look forward to honoring our Veterans and beginning this meaningful new tradition in our school community!
Kindness Challenge
On Friday afternoon our sixth grade students participated in a grade level presentation focused on kindness. Students worked in small groups facilitated by Sanborn staff to talk about kindness; what kindness is, how to show kindness to others and how to act with kindness in a variety of social situations. Students did a great job with thoughtful discussion and we ended the presentation with an introduction to our Random Acts of Kindness Bingo challenge! Throughout the coming weeks students will work to fill their Bingo card with acts of kindness throughout the school day; if you have a sixth grade student at home we encourage you to chat with them about the acts of kindness they are seeing and doing each day.
Future Ready Workshop--Photography
Sanborn recently hosted its first Future Ready Workshop, where students worked with Kevin Pillsbury and Kerrie Alley-Violette to explore photography techniques, tips, and tricks, as well as career opportunities within the photography field. Students had the opportunity to put their new skills into practice and share their photographs with the group. This hands-on experience allowed students to develop their photography skills while learning more about potential career pathways in the industry.
Future Ready is a one-day career exploration opportunity that connects students with industry professionals to gain firsthand insight into a specific career field. Students will learn about the career pathway, explore the skills and education needed for success, and participate in a hands-on activity or project related to the industry.
This event was generously sponsored by the Sanborn Seminary.

Space-landing Module Project
After researching exoplanets, students designed, built, and tested custom space-landing modules using limited supplies. Each team carefully secured an egg inside its lander before launching it off the roof, with a bit of help from our fabulous maintenance staff. With great excitement, students rushed to inspect their modules and uncover whether their precious cargo survived the drop!
