Administrative Overview of SWPBIS

In the overview, administrators can learn more about the SWPBIS process and how to set their teams up for success. We review the core components of PBIS and how implementation will look in your specific school building. We can also provide examples of how other schools in the area are implementing PBIS within their buildings. This is a great time to plan training days and discuss who should be part of the core team in your building.

Universal Tier 1 Implementation

This training is for the core team of your building, which could include administrators, guidance counselors, special education teachers, general education teachers, etc. We will support the team in designing and implementing the Tier 1 Universal Level practices of PBIS. This includes building expectations, creating an expectations matrix, and developing lesson plans for teaching the expectations to all students. We will also design and support the implementation of a school-wide positive acknowledgment system. In addition, we will dive deep into discipline data and make data-based decisions based on your data to target your SWPBIS interventions and supports. This training consists of at least 3 days of information or 5 modules, which can be delivered in a format that meets your needs.

SWPBIS Refresher

Are you experiencing turnover with PBIS team members who have never been formally trained in Tier 1? Is there new administration that was not part of your initial training? Are you looking to add new members to your core team? This refresher day is for you! This training is designed to continue improving your internal capacity to support the systems and practices that have been established at Tier 1.

Advanced Tiers Team Training

Advanced tier practices provide targeted support for students who are not successful with Tier 1 support alone. These practices consist of small group and individual supports for students who demonstrate an additional need for interventions. Advanced Tier teams will develop an understanding of the Tier 2/3 teaming process necessary to align presenting problems with appropriate interventions. Teams will determine how to integrate, blend, or collaborate with other school and community student support teams and will utilize a structured process for conducting team meetings.

SWIFT at SWIS / TIPS

The School-Wide Information System (SWIS) is a web-based decision system used to improve behavior support in schools and other educational facilities by providing school personnel with accurate, timely, and practical information for making decisions about school environments. (www.pbisapps.org) Team-Initiated Problem Solving (TIPS) is a conceptual model for problem-solving that has been operationalized into a set of practical procedures to be used during meetings of school-based problem-solving teams such as Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS). The use of TIPS procedures can help team members identify, address, and resolve students' social and academic behavior problems. (www.pbis.org)

Classroom Matrix Workshop

The classroom matrix is an essential component of PBIS that is embedded into classroom practices. During this workshop, teaching professionals will learn the rationale behind creating an individualized classroom matrix that is unique to their environment. After the training portion, teachers will have time to build their own matrix and consider their procedural expectations as they relate to the school-wide expectations.

Embedding Trauma Informed Practices Within the PBIS Framework

Over 50% of the nation's children have experienced at least one type of serious childhood trauma. As school professionals, we can support these students by recognizing trauma, implementing trauma-informed practices in the classroom, and, most importantly, working with our students to continue improving their brain resiliency! In this session, school staff will receive an in-depth training series that defines trauma, explores the various types of trauma, and provides strategies for embedding trauma-informed practices within their existing PBIS framework. Participants will be equipped with the skills necessary to implement trauma-informed practices in each of their buildings.

Restorative Practices

Building and strengthening relationships and community is a critical component of school culture. Restorative practices is an essential process for creating a positive learning environment, building social capital, and resolving relational issues. Participants will learn the fundamental theory and practices for engaging with students, staff, and parents in their school setting and how to apply the restorative practices continuum, while understanding which restorative processes are best for achieving certain goals or responding to particular situations.

SEL and PBIS

Building social and emotional learning skills from a young age is incredibly important for the lifelong success of children. Providing a plan for incorporating these skills throughout a child's educational journey can be made easier when integrated into the existing PBIS framework. During this session, we will explore resources directly from the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) in order to effectively integrate social-emotional learning practices into the PBIS framework. Discussion will focus on what these supports can look like as universal, Tier 2, or Tier 3 supports for students. Time will be allocated for action planning, allowing attendees to begin incorporating these practices into their PBIS framework at their schools.
