Principal's Message

Greetings Sunny Heights Families,

The first week of all virtual instruction has come to a close. I want to say a giant THANK YOU to students, families, and staff for remaining positive, flexible, and understanding while we adapt to a new way of delivering instruction. I have spent the week circulating the building watching teachers doing amazing things that they have never been asked to do before. I have been on Zoom calls seeing students that are engaged, eagerly participating, showing off their work, and excited to still be learning. I have also had the opportunity to speak with families about their experience, both the positive praise of our staff as well as getting great feedback on how we may improve our practice.

We all agree that we are not in an ideal situation and that this time is difficult on all of us in a wide variety of ways. I am so proud of how our greater Sunny Heights family has been so supportive in so many ways. Thank you all so very much!

Please stay safe and healthy!

Your PROUD Principal,

Bart Lewis

Warren Township Family & Caregiver Resources

Warren Township Family & Caregiver Resources is "live" and ready. We understand that parents and caregivers want to learn how to help their students be successful in school and these resources allow our parents and caregivers to have a "location" to visit where they can access tutorials/information on how to navigate digital tools used in our schools and to seek support.

Canvas and ParentVue were the topics that we received the most phone calls and email messages about at the beginning of the year when we started the virtual learning program, so we have targeted those topics here. *Apple ID was also a highly requested support for the first few weeks for elementary families; however, since all K-4 in-person students have their iPads set up, have been practicing in school and teachers have resources to share, we did not include that information on the site.

This page can be viewed in Spanish (by switching the language at the top of the website) and most resources are translated into Spanish as well. We have also linked it to the "Transition" to Virtual page.

This handbook is updated every year to include information about how we keep students and staff safe at school, along with resources for families to access as well as information on district procedures and policies. This handbook is also shared with students. Please take a moment to review and complete this as acknowledgement that you have received the handbook. Please reach out if you have any questions.

ALL STUDENTS - ATTENDANCE

For the 2020-2021 school year, Warren Township has transitioned to a new student information system called Synergy allowing our parents and caregivers to have improved access to school information through the parent portal called ParentVUE. We are aware that at this time some students’ attendance records are reflecting students are absent, when in fact they were present. This is mostly the case for our students who are attending school VIRTUALLY on application days or in the VIRTUAL opinion full-time. We want to assure you that teachers are keeping accurate attendance records and that we are working to correct attendance records for all our students.

PBIS Weekly Focus @ Sunny Heights Elementary

This week our students are focusing on recognizing students that show EXCELLENCE throughout the day. Excellence is shown when students put forth their best effort in any situation, especially difficult or challenging situations. We want Sunny Heights to be a place where everyone is valued, respected, and strives for their own excellence.

School District Publications/News Media Use

The occasion may arise when the school district wants to recognize your child or your child's school. This may include your child's photo, your child's name or your child's work in district publications, newsletters, on school district websites, and in electronic/social media or in staff training videos. We may also want to tell the media (including newspapers, television, and radio) about your child's achievements. We never knowingly release information about a student to anyone who wants to use it for commercial/political purposes. However, we will honor your request to not include your child in these types of recognition if you notify your child's school office in writing that you do not want this type of information released.
