Cohasset High School Newsletter
News and Happenings at Cohasset High School
October 2, 2026
Dear Families,
Over the last two weeks, the district kicked off its Love, Inclusivity, and Trust Initiative by bringing in jamele adams, whose work centers on creating communities grounded in authentic belonging. He spoke with faculty in August, then with students at Osgood, Deer Hill, the Middle School, and the High School, and with parents last night. Our intention was to publicly declare the district's belief that our collective success can only be achieved when students, faculty, and staff are seen, are accepted without condition, and contribute meaningfully to the larger culture.
The initiative began last spring, when students from both the middle and high school gathered to workshop a "LIT Statement," an aspirational pledge to action. They came up with the following:
We, the students of Cohasset Middle School and High School, pledge to promote unity, kindness, and equality by empowering, respecting, and valuing all. We commit to love, inclusivity, and trust by fostering a community between schools where people feel safe, included, and connected no matter who they are because we the community are all one.
The statement was shared with the larger student body as artists captured the mood of the room through painting and music.
While the event was largely a success, not all students at the high school felt it achieved its goal. They pointed to specific moments where the themes presented were experienced differently by different groups of students. We are grateful for their advocacy, which shows that even the best intentions can have a negative impact. Unless we engage in constructive conversations about that impact, we risk perpetuating the opposite of what we are trying to achieve.
Those conversations are only the first of many we need to have. So where do we go from here? At the Middle School, the largest student club is the Inclusivity Club. There isn't a direct parallel at the High School, where student interests splinter into a variety of clubs with different foci. But each of those clubs and athletic teams has an opportunity to consider what love, inclusivity, and trust look like in their spaces and activities.
On Monday, our fall sports captains will visit Deer Hill to demonstrate what belonging looks like in our athletic program. And I am going to challenge all of our 42 student outlets, including clubs, teams, and ensembles, to consider what it looks like for them: to embrace the challenge that fostering belonging brings, and to let our actions reflect our values. You'll see in this newsletter a few examples of those values that we "caught" in action.
If the work were easy, it wouldn't be necessary. And there is nothing more important.
Sincerely,
Brian T. Scott
Principal

Caught in the Act
Earlier in the year I received the following email from a parent. A great example of authentic character for the sake of just doing the right thing. It doesn't go unnoticed!
I wanted to share a quick shout-out from Friday's football game. With about 2–3 minutes left, the student section cleared out, and what was left behind was a huge mess. Garbage, cups, costume pieces, and all sorts of things scattered throughout every single row. What really stood out to me, though, were four students who stayed behind on their own and cleaned the entire section. Those students were Riley Corbett, Lilly Wilhelm, Elena Bennett, and Libby Morgan. They weren’t asked to do it, they just saw the mess and took it upon themselves to take care of it.
I thought you might want to know because it was such a great example of taking responsibility and pride in their school. It would be nice for these girls to get a little recognition for going above and beyond, even when they thought no one was watching.
Off to States!
Congratulations to 9th graders Isabella Carvalho, Andrew Lazorisak, and Amanda Magri, whose spring 2026 research project was chosen to go to States in June!!!
Arlee and You?
Senior Arlee Simmons has started Arlee and Me, a support service for new mothers. This is not something that was done through school. It was brought to my attention this past week. Another example of someone doing good without looking for any recognition.
But we see you, Arlee!
Student Drivers In-Control
Thanks to a grant from the Norfolk DAs Office and in conjunction with the Cohasset Police, roughly 200 students participated in the In-Control Driving exercise. Conducted by professional drivers, students participated in live demonstrations of stopping at high speeds and instructed on the importance of wearing seatbelts and remaining vigilant while driving.
Random inspections of the student lot will provide a formative assessment of the experience.
Who Needs the Aquarium . . .
When you have CSCR in your backyard. Thanks to Jack Buckley and Dr. Duncan for making the community the classroom. Students travel at least weekly to conduct on site research.
Hit The Spot
