Kansas City: Swim or Sink
Kansas City: Swim or Sink
The Missouri River is flooding affecting many states states and cities including our own. Many neighborhoods, farms, and stores are flooding because of it. This was one of the worst winters for Kansas City with all of the rain and snow. The Missouri River was frozen for a majority of the winter and when the ice started to melt, the river started flooding. Now, I know that’s this isn’t the first time it has flooded but with the extremely severe winter we’ve just had, the river is flooded more than it has in a good coupe of years. Lots of farms are getting wiped out because of the river. Lots of crops are getting ruined and that’s affected
How is Kansas City working to protect themselves from floods?
Well for starters the river has a levee trying to keep the water in the river and out of our streets. Which, most are still holding up. Lots of neighborhoods are just evacuation because there isn’t much that we can do about the floods. Lots of stores just decided to close down or move locations. Taxpayers have spent billions of dollars over the years to build dikes and drainage to keep the area dry! Some have even spent around $150 billion dollars to stop flooding near Turkey Creek.
Climate Change
By Alina Hamid
This graph shows climate change over the years & beyond the years. The red line will show how higher it’ll get, the higher the hotter. This graph shows how our world will be if we keep doing what we are doing. The black shows the confirmation, what actual happens over the years , so far the graph is telling the truth, if so 1/3 of humans will die due to climate change in about 2100.
By Alina Hamid
In this graph you’ll see how climate change is affecting sea levels. The graph shows how our sea level has been rising throughout the years, if you go to the year 2000-2020 (now) you’ll see that it’s pretty high up there. And it’ll just keep rising and rising if we keep doing what we’re doing as humans. And therefore eventually, scientists believe that just in a few decades, 40% of our world will be flooded due to climate change.

Sports Update
Sports are a thing most of us enjoy. The NBA play offs are starting and are better then ever.
The Warriors are probably the worst but are still favorites to win. What do you think?
Also, soccer player, Diego Coast got banned for 8 games for insulting referee mother when in the 28 minute, getting a straight red card.
In other news, La Liga said they may come to USA to play.
Lastly, Eastgate is starting a track team. We have high jump, long jump, 100 meter dash, and more events too. Let's hope the best for these track kids this year at Eastgate!
Restroom Policy...Do you agree?
By Skye Ortega
You know when you need to use the restroom and right before you ask, your teacher said “No one can use the restroom until after this class!” But you need to go really bad? Well I’m gonna try to fix this rule. We have passing time and sometimes there’s way to many people and you try tell the teacher but there are too many people using the restroom that day This happens to all of us and yes the teachers have the final say, but I honestly feel like they need to listen a bit more.
I also see the teachers view though, because yes, we should of used the restroom during passing time instead of talking to our friends. Maybe we need to try to reason with them on using the bathroom and instead of jumping to conclusions and start getting mad at the teacher try to say “Can I go to use the restroom in ten minutes?” It would probably help if we worked together to solve these problems.

Track Club at Eastgate
Track is fairly new to our school, considering this is the first year that Eastgate has done track as a 6th grade center. I talked to Luis Abrams who goes to track every Tuesday and Wednesday. The way he described track was that is is, “fun and challenging.” I am also in track and it’s amazing but I’m not the only one who thinks that. I talked to student in track and they said the same thing that it was “fun and exciting."

E-Store: Behind the Scenes
Do you ever wonder what it’s really like to be making the e-store? Well here’s a simple answer. This interview with the teacher in charge of the e-store MTSS, Mrs. Jack, might help you think of that question more. Take a look at what the e-store has to offer.
The first question asks how many people are working on the e-store? The MTSS teacher replied, “We currently have 12 students working the e-store during MTSS. However there is also a couple of students that do it during ASA on Mondays too.”
The next question asked was, about how long does it take to get the items in. The teacher said, “Recently, We have been able to get orders done within 24 hours of students ordering items!” The e-store is getting quicker now that there is a system in place.
The next question had a very interesting answer. The question asked was who chooses what’s sold in the e-store? She said that, “I haven’t picked any items yet, as the store has been stocked since I came into it. Let me know if you have any items of what we should add!” The fact that they are taking requests is amazing. Send your requests in to Mrs. Jack if you would like.
Another question asked is what is the average number of items sold. Mrs. Jack’s answer was, “Most orders are about 2-3 items, however many orders are single items.”
They currently have 3 varieties of spicy chips, each for 35 e-tickets, small candies like spree and laffy taffy for 5 e-tickets, and big candies like KitKat and M&Ms for 35 e-tickets. Then they also have school supplies for students who need pencils. Happy e-store shopping!
Mission E: The Car of the Future
The mission E car is the car of tomorrow. Mission E is the first Porsche car to be electric. This car will be 4’3 feet tall and the car will have a horse power of 600. This is no super car though. This is a normal, every day car. Now who made this car? That company is Porsche. Now this car is special cause it’s 0-62 mph is 3.5 seconds. Since the car is electric it also has a very quick jump start so when it goes it doesn’t need gases to fuel it it’s already fueled. Now being electric you might have to worry about the battery but the Porsche can go 300 miles before recharging. So this car, in conclusion might be the best, might be the worse but only the future will tell.
RISE Awards
Cale Horton said Ms. Holloway gave him a RISE award. Cale said he wasn’t surprised. Cale said that he got it from a goal for not speaking while work time and using iPad for school use only during class. Ms. Holloway said she was happy to give the RISE award to Cale. She loved it and he’s doing great. Then Ms. Holloway said that he got right back on track and then he made his goal so she gave it to him to reward him for his work. The rise awards are like an award for you if you are doing good things in class and meeting your goals.
