Beginning November with Gratitude Beginning November with Gratitude

As we begin November, I want to take a moment to recognize the people who make our school community so special.

I am thankful for our teachers, who show up for our students every day, including the days when a student is struggling or would rather be somewhere else. They meet those moments with patience, encouragement, and a fresh start. I am grateful for the care and effort they bring, day in and day out, to educating our children.

I am thankful for our students, who brighten our days with a smile, a wave, or an unexpected conversation. Those small moments remind us why we do this work and how much joy comes from being part of their lives.

I am thankful for our parents and families, who support our school, encourage their children, and work alongside us through both celebrations and challenges. Your partnership truly makes a difference.

I am also thankful for our community and the local businesses that welcomed our students and handed out candy on Friday, October 30. It was a wonderful chance for students to visit area businesses and connect with the people who help make Pleasant Hill special. Thank you for your generosity and for making our students feel so welcome.

As we move through this month of gratitude, I hope we all take time to notice these everyday moments and thank the people behind them. There is so much to be thankful for at Pleasant Hill.

Mrs. Spann’s class has been learning all about pumpkins! Students made pumpkin life cycle chains and estimated how many paper pumpkins tall they are before measuring to check. They also cut pieces of yarn they thought would fit around the class pumpkin, then tested them to see if they were too long, too short, or just right. The class pumpkin kept everyone busy: students predicted its weight and then weighed it, counted its seeds (329!), and guessed whether it would sink or float (it floats!). Finally, they voted on what kind of face to carve, and scary won. What a fun week of science, math, and writing!

Save the Date: Birth to Three Playgroup Save the Date: Birth to Three Playgroup

Pleasant Hill Elementary invites families with children from birth to 36 months to our first playgroup on Thursday, November 19, from 5 to 7 p.m., held during our November Pre-K Family Night.

We know the sudden end of the home visiting program last spring left a gap for many families. While we can’t offer home visits at this time, we’re working to bring back some of the program’s most valued parts, including regular opportunities for parent education, support, and connection.

We plan to host a playgroup each month, where children can play and explore alongside their parents and caregivers and other young children. Families will also have the chance to connect with one another and pick up helpful information about early learning and development.

We look forward to welcoming you and your little ones!
