Week 37

Art Fest
We are super excited that this is our Art Fest week! Led by the teachers in our Neighborhood School, this year’s Art Fest promises to be even more spectacular than last year’s. Mrs. D. Gonzalez, Ms. G. Gonzalez, Ms. Aguilar, Ms. Kim, Mr. Galvez, and Mrs. Santana have been working hard behind the scenes. Our theme, in case you haven't guessed, is "Under the Sea."
During the week, we will engage in some spirited dress-up days that go along with the selected theme, “Under the Sea.” On Friday, students will perform for each other in the morning and then for our school community in the afternoon. Every single class will be performing, along with our chorus and dance team. Newly added to our lineup this year are orchestra and ukulele! We will decide the order of performances after our rehearsal, so please check back on Thursday to see when your child will be performing.
The afternoon performance begins at 1:00 pm. Review the flyer below. The main gate will be open at 12:40 pm. It will be hot outside. Please wear your hats, sun-visors and sunglasses. We will sell water, pizza, and light snacks (while supplies last).
The first two rows of seating will be reserved and left open. Please do not try to sit there before the show opens. The first two rows will be reserved for photos/videos for when it is your child's class's turn to perform. You can move to those seats when they are on the stage to capture the best photos/videos. Once their class walks offstage, please move back to another seat so the parents of the incoming performers can take the premiere seating for their photos/videos. All the seats behind rows 1 and 2 are available. In order for this to work harmoniously, EVERYONE will have to respectfully move when it's not your turn and make room for others to sit next to you when they move back.
After school, our Neighborhood teachers will be hosting arts-and-crafts booths. Again, there will be a food sale. Bring cash. Valet services will not be available.
Attendance Challenge
Everyone's a Winner
Last Thursday we hosted a special assembly for students who met our attendance challenge. For 3 weeks we asked students to not be absent, not be tardy, and stay for the duration of the entire day. 125 wonderful students met that challenge. Rather than put their names into a drawing like we were initially going to do, we allowed every single student to select a prize from our glorious prize table. There were amazing lego sets, scented specialty slime, stuffed animals, Pokemons, to name a few. (We tried to capture a decent photo of everyone, but the sun was working hard on its photo sabotage mode.)
No Valet Friday
Kind reminder that Friday is our Art Fest Celebration. There will be no valet service a dismissal.
OLSAT Meeting
2nd Grade Parents
By now you should have reviewed the envelope that was sent home with your 2nd graders OLSAT Intellectual test. If you have questions or need support reading the results and understanding what it means, please make it a point to join Mrs. Hoffer's zoom on Tuesday, May 26th at 8:30 am. Don't be late. 😀
The zoom will include:
- How to read your data.
- What does your data mean?
- What are some possible next steps if your child has been identified as GIFTED via the OLSAT
Yearbook
We publish a yearbook every single year and this is our thickest one yet! With 122 pages of incredible memories, this book will bring ear to ear smiles for many years to come. If you have pre-ordered a book, you should have received it last Friday, 5/22. If you did not pre-order and would like to purchase one now, you can purchase it directly from the Treering website. Click on link here to purchase.
Congratulations!
Mrs. Ortega and Ms. Gutierrez will proudly be representing Multnomah, as they have been selected to be a part of the highly coveted 4-year program through the LA Teacher Fellowship through the Math for America Los Angeles and the National Science Foundation. We will be digging deeper into data, working closely together to execute their well-thought out plan, and see our students truly be the beneficiary of all the behind-the-scene dedication, rigorous lesson planning, and hard work! Kudos to Mrs. Ortega and Ms. Gutierrez!
Chaperone Guidelines
We have quite a few field trips coming up and I want to make sure all parent chaperones review the guidelines to ensure the utmost safety of our students. When you agree to chaperone a field trip, you are agreeing to the following rules and procedures:
I will sign in at the main office upon arrival and sign out when I leave for the day.
I will wear my volunteer identification badge at all times while participating in a school activity.
I will follow the dress code of the school.
I will follow LAUSD’s cell phone policy (My cell phone is stowed away at all times, and I will not use my cell phone to take pictures of students while I’m volunteering).
I will maintain strict confidentiality of students’ health, behavior, and academic information.
I acknowledge that I am the only volunteer invited to chaperone and will not bring any additional family members on the field trip, even if they are approved volunteers.
I am watching the entire group I am assigned to, not just my own child.
New Screen Time Policy
As you may be aware, The Los Angeles Unified Board of Education recently approved a resolution to limit screen time district-wide. You can review the draft policy here: Draft Screen Time Policy.
Feedback on the draft policy is needed from our school communities prior to final Board approval in June. Information on how to provide feedback is listed below. Please share so teachers, administrators, staff, students, parents, and families can provide feedback. Flyers for the survey are also attached to this email.
Feedback Period: May 19, 2026 through June 2, 2026
