The perfect time for music

Hello! I'm not sure if it's the recency of April break or the rejuvenating weather, but every time the sun is out it feels like the perfect time for music. Whether you listen to music in your car with the windows down or jam in the backyard with your buddies, this weather gives us the opportunity to be social with our music. In the colder Winter months my my listening and playing sometimes feels preservative, but now that we have left those days behind I feel so strongly about making music with people, on the grass, in the sun. So yes, our May concert will be indoors (details below), but keep your ears out for impromptu pop up performances around Moxley!

Modern Music Ensemble Play the Riff Game Modern Music Ensemble Play the Riff Game

To keep up our guitar tab reading skills, students play a daily game where they are given a mystery song (in tab) and they have to play through it in order to guess the song. See if you can figure out what songs I've included below (answers at the bottom)!

Music tech... reads??? Music tech... reads???

Music technology and hip-hop history go hand in hand. Given how often we hear hip-hop in our society, media, advertising, etc. I believe it is critical for students to understand the complex reasons for its unique and political aesthetics. Music technology students took on the VERY DENSE text "The Hip-Hop Wars" by Tricia Rose to learn about sexism in hip-hop. You can find a preview of the book below!

The Hip Hop Wars

The Hip Hop Wars

How hip hop shapes our conversations about race--and how race influences our consideration of hip hop Hip hop is a distinctive form of black art in America-from Tupac to the Pulitzer Prize-winning Kendrick Lamar, hip hop has long given voice to the African American experience.
