Message from Principal Sheryll Orbase
Dear Rose City Park Families,
Thank you to everyone who took time to attend and take part in the Community Budget Engagement sessions this week. As we continue in the planning and engagement phase of the 2026–27 budget process, we encourage you to share any additional thoughts through the Budget Feedback Form. We’re reviewing feedback as it comes in—from staff, students, families, and community members—and using it to inform and refine our finance team’s preliminary recommendations. We also encourage you to check the PPS Budget website, which is being updated regularly with new information, including FAQs, engagement opportunities, and the preliminary report on budget recommendations.
I hope the entire RCP community can join us for this year's VDLI Tết Festival on Friday, February 6th at McDaniel High School. Doors open at 5:30pm. There will be a Lion Dance at 5:45pm, student performances in the auditorium at 6:30 & 8:00pm, as well as food and other vendors, cultural crafts and activities, community resource information for families, and more open throughout the evening.
Providing this full festival experience for our students and families relies fully on parent and community volunteers giving a portion of their time that night to help out. Please sign up here to volunteer. As little as an hour of your time will make a huge difference in our event's success.
Please note that February 25 is Immunization Exclusion Day. Beginning January 14, MESD will run immunization reports in Synergy to determine which students will receive exclusion notices.
The Ellington–to–Rose City Park Walking School Bus is off to a strong start, with Jennifer and Hector walking a large group of students to and from school every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The program hopes to expand to Tuesdays and Thursdays and is currently looking for parent volunteers to support students on any of these walks. Interested volunteers can contact Nissa Jensen, Youth Program Manager at Trash for Peace, at 971-209-2043 or nissa.j@trashforpeace.org.
As always, we appreciate our community’s commitment to engaging thoughtfully and respectfully as we work together in support of our students and school.

With gratitude,
Principal Orbase

TAG
The Talented and Gifted (TAG) Department wants your feedback. Please take a moment to complete the TAG Family Survey (your student does not have to be identified as TAG to complete the survey). This survey will help PPS better understand the experiences of families with students identified as TAG.
The Single Subject Acceleration - Math process application window begins March 1st. This process is open to 2nd - 4th grade students. The process outlined in the PPS administrative directive on acceleration and on the TAG Website, allows students who qualify to accelerate through the next grade level. This is a rigorous process with only 14% of students qualifying for SSA-M in 2024 - 25. It is important to talk with your students' teacher to determine if your student might be a good candidate for SSA-M. Strong candidates are students who have met the standards of their current grade level and are proficient on a paper/pencil assessment administered at schools under the guidance of the TAG Department. The decision to accelerate students is made by the TAG Department, with input from teachers, a variety of district administered assessments and the paper/pencil assessment. The timeline for SSA-M:
March 1 - 31st applications accepted via the TAG Website
April 1 - 30th evaluation process
May 15th family notification
For questions regarding your student’s potential for SSA-M, please contact your student’s teacher. For questions regarding the SSA-M process, please contact the TAG Department at ppstag@pps.net
The application window for Access Academy Lottery is February 18th - March 15th. Please visit the Access Academy website for more information on the Access Academy Lottery.
