A Note from Mrs. Mathe

Today we hosted our first AttenDANCE of the school year, and it was an absolute blast! We loved dancing and celebrating with our Huskies (my knees can definitely attest to it!). My favorite moment of the day was teaching everyone the Chicken Dance—a childhood favorite of mine! This fun event kicks off our quarterly celebrations recognizing students who are at school every day and on time.

We understand that children may become ill, and we want them to stay home when they’re not feeling well. However, on those mornings when it’s just a little tough to get up or there’s some pushback about coming to school, we hope this celebration serves as a great reminder and motivation to be here each day!

GT Testing Information

Referral requests for the Gifted and Talented (GT) program are now being accepted from October 1–December 19, 2024. Although GT testing will not take place until late January, families interested in referring their child should contact their child’s teacher to request a nomination packet.

Please note: 2nd grade students do not need a parent referral. All 2nd graders will take the CogAT test this October. These scores are used as the first step in the GT evaluation process. Families will be notified after CogAT results are received if their child qualifies for the second phase of GT testing in January.

CogAT Assessment- 2nd Grade

All 2nd grade students will take the CogAT assessment during the week of October 20–24. Additional information will be sent home in Friday Folders on October 9th.

Esme Szovan

Meet Esme! She is a talented young Lego builder and enthusiast! Esme’s love for building began three years ago with Duplo blocks, and she’s now creating impressive structures — from detailed buildings to intricate vehicles — using sets with nearly a thousand pieces all on her own!

At just six years old, Esme’s dedication to her craft shows incredible patience, creativity, and logical thinking. Each new build not only strengthens her problem-solving skills but also boosts her confidence as she brings her imaginative designs to life.

We’re so proud of Esme for turning her passion into a fun and meaningful way to learn and grow! Keep building, Esme — the possibilities are endless!

HINES SHINES

We are excited to launch a new section in our newsletter, Hines Shines, where we celebrate students who go above and beyond in showing kindness, leadership, hard work, and exceptional behavior and exemplifying our Husky HOWL. These shining stars make Hines a better place every day, and we can’t wait to recognize their amazing contributions!

Family Assistance

Throughout the school year, our school receives donations and access to various community resources intended to help our families thrive. This support can often include essential items, school supplies, cold-weather gear, or other assistance.

We want to make sure these resources reach the families who could use them most. If you feel your family would benefit from being included in this confidential outreach, please send an email to jtaylor4@conroeisd.net or rjtaylor@conroeisd.net. We will connect with you privately as opportunities arise.

Book Notifications

Conroe ISD Library Services has enabled checkout notifications, so you know the title of the books your student checked out. These notifications will be sent on days when your student checks out a book from the school library and will only be sent for the initial checkout. Daily notifications will no longer occur for the entire time a book is checked out to a student. State law and board policy do not allow an opt-out option for these notifications. If you have a question or concern about your student’s reading material, please contact your campus librarian.
