Introducing Mitch Dubinsky

Dear Westmoor Families,

We are excited that our school will be welcoming a new principal, Mitch Dubinsky, beginning in July. It is truly wonderful to have someone with such strong experience and leadership, who is also already a valued member of our school community.

Our Science Fair & STEM Night was a tremendous success! We had 27 science fair projects and 38 student participants. On the STEM side, families enjoyed incredible demonstrations led by parent volunteers, local businesses, and student volunteers from NBJH and GBN. It was a fantastic evening filled with curiosity, creativity, and fun.

A special congratulations to our Student Choice winners from each grade level, and a big thank you to our wonderful PTO for organizing such an engaging event!

Student Choice Winners:

  • Kindergarten: Henry Bissell – What is the Most Common Color of M&Ms?

  • 1st Grade: Carlyle and Vivian Turk – How to Make Gummy Candy

  • 2nd Grade: Joey Georgopulos – Do People Know Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and RC by Taste?

  • 3rd Grade: Davis Becker – Lucky Penny

  • 4th Grade: Mason Lerner – Parent Detector Alarm System

  • 5th Grade: Aliza Silver-Schack and Maddy Sutherland – Real vs. AI

This week, students had a blast participating in our paper plane challenge during Pack meetings. We wrapped up with a spirited, school-wide assembly to celebrate our pride—and of course, Buddy, our mascot, made a special appearance!

We also want to remind families that your voice matters. Please take a few minutes to complete the 5Essentials Survey. Family participation is a critical part of the feedback process and helps guide our continued growth and improvement.

Next week, Westmoor will launch March Picture Book Madness in the spirit of NCAA March Madness! March Picture Book Madness is a bracket-style reading tournament that mirrors the college basketball tournament. Sixteen picture books will face off against each other in head-to-head matchups, and students will vote for their favorites as the competition moves through each round—all the way to a final championship book. It’s a fun and engaging way to celebrate reading across our school community!

Thank you for your continued partnership and support of our Westmoor community.

A Heartfelt Thank You for an Amazing STEM Night & Science Fair! A Heartfelt Thank You for an Amazing STEM Night & Science Fair!

We just wanted to take a moment to sincerely thank each and every one of our volunteers for being part of our STEM Night & Science Fair. We especially want to thank Tina Bissell for planning the entire event.

The evening was an incredible success. We had a wonderful turnout, and it was so special to see the excitement throughout the building—students proudly sharing their projects, families exploring the demonstrations, and so many hands-on moments sparking curiosity and joy. That kind of experience doesn’t just happen on its own; it happens because of dedicated volunteers like you.

We are especially grateful that this event brought together not only our amazing teachers and parent volunteers, but also members of our broader community. From local businesses to our junior high and high school student volunteers, it was inspiring to see so many people invest in our students and show them that learning and innovation are supported far beyond our school walls.

And to our incredible students who participated in the Science Fair — thank you. Your hard work, creativity, and courage to present your ideas made the night truly special.

Thank you to everyone for helping create such a meaningful and memorable night for our students and families. We are so appreciative of this incredible community!
