Rocky Point Weekly Update
January 26th-30th
Hello Rocky Point Families
We highly appreciate the excellent attendance for students to receive instruction, testing in grades 3-5 and at our kindergarten, first and second grade winter concert this past week. We are especially proud of our younger elementary students’ behavior and participation at their winter concert! Our book fair is off to a huge success as well thanks to your support! We are looking forward to our winter concert for third, fourth and fifth grade this upcoming week!
Please remember to have students bring all Chromebooks back to school tomorrow as again we will be operating on a normal schedule tomorrow, Monday, January 26th. We look forward to seeing all 3-5 families on Tuesday evening for our third, fourth and fifth grade winter concert!
Rescheduled Winter Concerts and Book Fair
The book fair will continue this week through Wednesday, January 28th. Our third, fourth and fifth grade winter concert will take place this week on Tuesday, January 27th at 5:30pm. All students are asked to dress to impress and arrive by 5:20pm. On evenings of the concert, the book fair will remain open until 7:00pm. Our PTO will be selling refreshments at this concert, in which all items will be sold for $1.00. We are looking forward to another great evening with our families!
Middle of Year District and State Assessments Update
Students in grades 3-5 will continue taking their state assessments this week in reading, with 5th grade also having a NC Check-in in Science. The specific dates are:
NC Reading Check-in will take place on Tuesday, January 27
NC Science Check-in will take place on Thursday, January 29
Please ensure your child gets enough rest in order to be alert for instruction during this second semester as well as be well rested to perform their best on these assessments. If students are absent, we will be making phone calls beginning at 7:20am in order to not begin testing without students present.
Reassignment Application Request for 2026-2027
In an effort to accommodate the educational preferences of families in the Pender County School District, officials have opened the reassignment request period for the upcoming 2026-2027 academic year. Parents who wish to enroll their students in a Pender County school outside of their designated zone, with the exception of Pender Early College and Pender Innovative Learning Academy, are encouraged to participate in the application process.
Due to schools in the Topsail and Surf City school districts being over capacity, no new applications will be accepted. Applications are being accepted now, allowing parents time to consider alternative educational options for their children. The deadline for submitting reassignment requests is February 28, 2026. Notification letters will go home on May 1st.

The Pender County Schools Superbowl Reading Challenge
The Pender County Schools Superbowl Reading Challenge began yesterday, January 24, 2026 to kick-off NFL Championship Weekend leading up to the Superbowl.
During the next two weeks, every thousand minutes logged by our school will equal one touchdown with 7 points. The school with the most touchdowns wins the game at the end of Superbowl Weekend, which will be at midnight on February 8, 2026. While we are continuing to log your child’s reading minutes as we have been doing all year, you may also do so by filling out the PCS Million Minute Reading Challenge Google Form found in Classlink of your child’s computer. The winning school will receive an ice cream party for students and a staff breakfast or luncheon.

Ronald McDonald Pop Tab Challenge Continues.
Our can pop tab challenge is continuing as we head into the second semester. Please consider saving pop tabs and sending them in with your child as a part of a community service project in which our school is collecting pop tabs from cans for the remainder of the school year to donate to the Ronald McDonald House. Collecting can pop tabs supports the operating costs of providing a home away from home for families with sick children. Please begin collecting and sending in tabs from soda, food and pet food cans! Let’s work together to collect as many pop tabs as possible!
Million Minute Reading Challenge & Homework Expectations
Our reading challenge at RPE in conjunction with the PCS Million Minute Reading Challenge is ongoing. Please make sure your child is reading for at least 15 minutes each night and that you are completing your child’s paper reading log each night. We would like to recognize Peyton Gore and Octavio Delgado Campos for being our top readers with the most minutes logged during the first semester.
Freckle
Please also continue to support students in completing their adaptive practice in their online Freckle program on their Chromebooks throughout the week. Please support your child in completing a total of 45 minutes at home each week in math for grades 2-5 and in reading for grades 3-5. Help guides are linked below:
