A Note from Mrs. Pitts

Dear RES Families and Supporters,

There is a lot to think about in here so I won't add any more!

Here is a way to make this newsletter a little easier to process. All the info you need is in here.

1. Make sure you know the spirit days next week.

2. Register your child if they are entering K next year!

3. Send in coins in the next couple of weeks if you can.

4. Mark your calendar for either January 25 at 8:05 AM OR January 31 at 6:00 PM to learn about all that is going on here at RES.

5. Email Michelle Pitts (mpitts@sau50.org) your family name for the new playground!

And DONE!

Warmly,

Michelle Pitts

Support for Our Families

We are learning more and more from some of our students about how some of our families may have been impacted by flooding and other damage from the recent storms. At RES, we want you to know that we are here if there is anything we can do to support your family or your child here at school. Please reach out to Michelle if you need anything!

Principal Chats

Please join me to learn more about RES at one of two opportunities in the month of January!

As we plan the rest of the school year, I have scheduled a morning and an evening of reflection and conversation with families. The title of this discussion will be "RES 101." During this time, I will plan to share with you the accomplishments of the year, thus far, as well as educate families on our "next steps" and common language we use at school each day. I would LOVE to have some feedback on topics you might find helpful. I want to cover as much as possible and know there might be questions and education that might be covered if I know your questions ahead of time. Thank you for your consideration!

Playground Name

Ok, this is a fun one! We are asking YOU, our families, to engage in a fun project...NAME THE NEW PLAYGROUND! As we move towards a new playground, we want to have a name for a variety of reasons, such as planning for a new sign! We have decided it is time for a new name to match the new structures and would love your help!

Please email Michelle Pitts at resoffice@sau50.org with your families final decision and we will announce the name in the spring.

This Week's Highlights This Week's Highlights

First Grade Rock Band

First graders learn how to go between open "A" and "D" on electric basses, why others play the chords on metallophones, or solo on xylophone.

We love that Mr. Guth takes every opportunity to apply for music grants and attend workshops that help to get amazing and fun instruments into the hands of our students. Before we know it, we will have RES students in our staff band!

The Pitts Chip

We have implemented a new strategy for students if they are having a particularly hard day and might need a break or some space. Introducing...the Pitts Chip. This chip can be obtained by teachers, who may also hear from home, that a break is needed in a given day. The child has the option to hand this chip to ANY teacher during that day to come to the Pitt-Stop, the amazing room in the back of the office, and take a break. Students have many options that allow them to take 5 minutes to do what they choose and return to class feeling a little lighter and rejuvenated.

Talking About Student Needs

Every day our staff interacts with students who range in their social, emotional and behavioral needs, and they change all the time. This week many of our staff engaged in an hour and a half of discussion, after reading nine different articles, that focused on UNDERSTANDING these needs and then INTERVENING in ways that are supportive when addressing these needs. The RES staff is amazing and our community is so understanding of all children but we can always learn more. The collaboration and discussion was truly remarkable.

Lunch with Students

We do allow one family member at a time to have lunch with their child(ren) but this is very optional and we don't want families to feel pressured to attend.

  • Email resoffice@sau50.org if you would like to attend with the date/time (starting October 1). It is important to anticipate who will be in the building. We love these opportunities for students and their family members but we will always put safety first.
  • We do have a focus during this time...eating for energy and brain power!
  • Family members must meet the child in the cafeteria and leave from the cafeteria.
  • Lunch times are:
  • Kindergarten-11:45-12:10

    First Grade-12:15-12:40

    Second Grade-12:15-12:40

    Third Grade- 11:15-11:40

    Fourth Grade-11:15-11:40
