Romine's Roundup

Hello Mary Bryan Families!!

This month, we started teaching the Second Steps program here at Mary Bryan Elementary. This well-regarded social emotional curriculum is providing our students with foundational skills of empathy, growth mindset, goal setting, emotion management, and problem solving. Regular classroom lessons, songs, videos, and activities help our student learn and practice their skills every day.

Please see the attached letter from Second Steps for more details.

PE happenings with Mrs. McSorley

During the 1st rotation, these students earned the right to put their name up on our W.O.W. Wall because they were caught showing cooperation, being an active listener, having a growth mindset and demonstrating good sportsmanship. Super proud of all of them for such amazing work in Physical Education Class!!!

NURSING NOTES from Mrs. Mandel

Please continue to talk to your students on how to prevent illness and spreading germs:

* Wash hands frequently for 20 seconds with soap and water.

* Use hand sanitizer when soap and water aren't easily accessible.

*Staying home when sick.

*Staying away from others that are sick or anyone that has Covid or has symptoms of Covid.

*Cover your cough.

*Mask wearing, social distancing and frequent hand washing are the best ways to prevent the spread of germs including Covid

*Although Perry Township is not requiring Covid testing at this time the CDC recommends getting a Covid test if you show any signs of Covid (fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath, nausea, stomach ache, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, loss of taste or smell, fatigue, congestion, body aches or sore throat or are a close contact to someone that has Covid.

*Although Perry Township is not requiring masks at this time, the CDC also STRONGLY recommends masks in indoor settings, large outdoor settings and in schools even if you are fully vaccinated.

*Please screen your students daily for Covid Symptoms before they come to school and keep them home for signs of Covid. Please contact your student's doctor or get a Covid test for any concerns

* Notify the school attendance line ANYTIME your student is absent 317-789-2602 or notify the school nurse if you have any questions. Heather Mandel, RN, 317-789-2641 or hmandel@perryschools.org

Important Note About Free Meal Program

While all students are eligible for free meals for the 2021-22 school year, there are restrictions to the program per the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) guidelines.

If your student brings lunch from home but still wants milk, fruit, or a vegetable to go with their meal, the USDA requires us to charge a small fee because it is considered an a la carte “add-on” purchase. According to USDA rules, the free program only applies to “complete” meals.

To avoid this fee, students who bring their lunch from home are invited to go through the lunch line and get fruit, vegetable, and milk for FREE. This meets the USDA requirements for a balanced meal so there is no cost.

The program will run through June 2022, or until USDA funding runs out (whichever occurs first).

Southside Indy Aquatics (SIA) is a year-round competitive swim program located in Perry Township. SIA focuses on building self-confident, well-rounded, competitive swimmers by coaching and teaching swim technique in a fun, friendly environment. The fall/winter season will begin on September 7.

Evaluations for new athletes ages 5-18 will be on Wednesday, August 25 at Southport High School from 6-7pm. Enter Door 8. Please have athletes wear a swimsuit and goggles for a quick evaluation in the water. E-mail Lauren Cox with any questions at lcox@southsideindyaquatics.com.
