Mrs. Stokes' Notes
It is so nice to have the first full week of school under our belts. The first week and a half was devoted to establishing routines, relationships, and goals. Students and staff seem to be putting their best foot forward as they lay the groundwork for a fantastic year.
Over the next two weeks, teachers will be completing assessments to establish a baseline for learning goals. These assessments are very important as they will provide teaches with information on how they need to devote their planning and time. All students have areas of strength and area of weakness, establishing what those are early in the year, allows for teachers to effectively meet the needs of individual students.
Families can help set their kiddo up for a successful assessment day by ensuring they get adequate sleep, eat a healthy meal in the morning, and talking to them about the importance of doing their best. If you have specific questions about the MAPS (Math and Reading) assessment for 3rd-8th or MCLASS for K-3 (reading) , please let me know.
Finally, there are quite a few opportunities to families to get involved in September. We welcome all families to participate, so please check out the calendar below. If you are a new family to the area, we have a very active parent group that supports the many events that take place at Chapman. They will be meeting Friday to discuss fall events, and begin planning for their biggest event of the year, the Chapman Halloween Carnival. Support will be needed to decorate, raise funds, gather items, and plan. Many of areas of need can be done outside of school and when it works for you. Please consider helping with this effort.
As always, I am here to support students and their families as we work together to establish a safe and welcoming place for all students to learn and grow. I encourage you to stop by with any questions or concerns that you might have.
With Gratitude,
Mrs. Stokes

Volunteers
All Chapman volunteers and visitors to classrooms, the lunchroom, etc. must have a volunteer screening completed. If you plan on volunteering for clubs or sports as an assistant coach or parent helper, you must also have training on concussion and sudden cardiac arrest. Trainings are linked below. You do not need a screening completed to attend Chapman sponsored events such as award's assemblies, parent teacher conferences and family activities.
Volunteer Coaches
Volunteer Coaches
We appreciate those who are willing to assist in coaching a sport or club. In an effort to ensure that kids are safe, the following trainings are required for those volunteer at practices or games regularly.

August Highlights
3rd Grade Highlight
Third graders have been exploring the five regions of Alaska and the animals you could find there. We are practicing handling Ms. Friendshuh’s Alaska stuffed animals gently so she can bring her real animal furs to school!
6th-8th Retreat
To celebrate back to school, the middle school classes took an excursion to the river for an afternoon of food and games! Students roasted hot dogs and smores, competed in a scavenger hunt, and had a fun Friday afternoon. Events like this cannot happen without parental support, so we thank for everyone for helping out!
1st and 2nd Grade
Students in Ms. Kohler's class explored shapes. Here students are using math manipulatives to build and make towers.
