MusicAid May 2026 Newsletter

As May ends, so does exam season. We hope all your exams went well!

- Hosted 4 regular concerts in senior homes across Maryland and Virginia.

Exam season is a stressful and often overwhelming time for students, so we are extremely grateful for our high school volunteers who managed to fit performing at our concerts into busy schedules. While we understandably had less volunteers, we still saw amazing concerts from our talented volunteers. Volunteers, your dedication and hard work are not overlooked! Thank you!

At our May concerts, there was no shortage of talent. This month, we want to spotlight Journey Stenerson for her unique performance of "When We Were Young", by Adele, combining piano and voice. While we often have many skillful piano players and singers, it is rare to see one performer possess both talents. While it may appear simple, it requires your brain to split focus on two distinct tasks of managing finger movement whilst simultaneously controlling pitch and breath. Vocals must also rhythmically line up with piano accompaniment. It is a higher level of multitasking that requires skilled coordination of vocals and instrument. We appluad Journey for her amazing rendition!

This month, MusicAid had the privilege of providing piano accompaniment for several talented performers at the MMEA State Solo & Ensemble Festival and studio recitals.

Our founders, Ethan and Alex, accompanied Ella and Alyssa for their recital performances, while Alvin accompanied 7th grader Ethan Chen at the MMEA Solo & Ensemble Festival, where he received a Grade I (Superior) rating.

Congratulations to all of our performers! We are grateful for the opportunity to support young musicians and share in their musical accomplishments. We look forward to many more performances ahead.

MusicAid is extremely happy to be able to aid performers in need. We wanted to remind everyone that although much of our focus is performing at nursing homes, MusicAid also provides free piano accompaniment to ensure equitable opportunities for performers.
