What is McKinney-Vento? What is McKinney-Vento?

The McKinney-Vento Act is a federal law that helps children and youth who are experiencing homelessness. It ensures they have the right to go to school and get the support they need, even if they don’t have a stable nighttime residence. This law makes sure schools quickly enroll students, provide transportation for necessary school events, and give them equal access to all school activities and services. Its goal is to make sure homelessness doesn’t stop kids from being able to receive a quality education.

Arizona Department of Education stated the mission perfectly, "The mission of the Homeless Education Program is to ensure that homeless children and youth have access to a free, appropriate public education, comparable to that provided to the children of any Arizona resident and consistent with Arizona’s mandatory school attendance laws."
