Policy Reminder: Child Protective Services

Child Protective Services (CPS) is a state program that is part of the Department of Human Services (DHS). State law says CPS has to make sure children are safe. (DHS-PUB-0460, A Parent’s Guide to Working with Child Protective Services)

The Michigan Child Protection Law, 1975 PA 238, MCL 722.621 et. seq., requires the reporting of suspected child abuse and neglect by certain persons (called mandated reporters) and permits the reporting of suspected child abuse and neglect by all persons. (DHS-PUB-112, Mandated Reporters’ Resource Guide)

All employees of the Strive Centers for Autism are mandated reporters. This means that our staff will report suspected abuse or neglect immediately to CPS as required by law. Mandated reporters are not obligated to inform parents when they have made a report to CPS.

In addition, when a Child Protective Services worker contacts the Strive Centers for Autism, it is our policy to cooperate fully with any investigation. This may include allowing the CPS worker to visit the center, to observe your child, and to interview your child. Strive Center staff are not obligated to inform parents of such a visit; the CPS worker will make any contact necessary.

For additional information on Child Protective Services, parents can access DHS-PUB-0460, A Parent’s Guide to Working with Child Protective Services, available at this link.

In addition, a printed copy of the guide will be kept onsite at each Strive Center location with additional information for parents on Recipients Rights.

Meet the team! Meet the team!

Caylee, Registered Behavior Technician

Caylee joined Strive in May 2025 after graduating from Grace Christian University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Before coming to Strive, Caylee worked at Dollar General, where she learned a lot about communication, patience, and connecting with people from all walks of life.

When Caylee’s not at work, you can usually find her curled up with a good book, enjoying the outdoors, or spending time with her amazing family. Caylee continues to enjoy growing here, learning alongside everyone, and being part of the incredible work Strive is doing!
