Message from Principal Wadkins
Dear Cleveland Families,
At the end of a grading period, our calendar will usually have back to back weeks with flex periods. Tomorrow and Wednesday will have Flex periods which will be the last ones before the end of the quarter. Please encourage your students to check in with their teachers with any questions or concerns. This will be a short week for students with Thursday and Friday being non-student days with teachers having a grading day and a planning day as per the PPS calendar.
As a parent you should have received a request from PPS to allow your student access to Google “Additional Services” which includes YouTube. Examples of how we use YouTube include videos that support the curriculum and are assigned by teachers. Often the video links are in the assignment on the course Canvas page. Additionally, our students in journalism produce a weekly video update for students that is shown in classes to keep students informed of events around the school. These videos are posted on YouTube. Students will only have access to videos that are approved by PPS. The deadline to submit your consent for your student to access these additional Google services is November 6.
This week is the start of the fall season soccer playoffs. Our girls team will play Glencoe HS for a berth in the state playoffs on Tuesday, October 27. If they win on Tuesday, they will play in the first round of playoffs on October 31 at McNary HS. Our boys team which finished the regular season ranked 2nd in the state has a “by” for round one and will play their first playoff game at home on November 3. This Friday’s football game at home against Franklin HS on October 30 is a pivotal contest where a win will put us in the playoffs for the Columbia Cup. As you can see, there are plenty of fall sports still to enjoy! I know our teams will be competitive.
We hosted our first choir performance in the auditorium of Marshall Campus last Wednesday with the Choir Fall Concert. They sounded wonderful, and the evening saw the culmination of a fundraising event for a new grand piano for the choir room. Thank you everyone for attending and for your generosity in supporting the performing arts at Cleveland. I am excited for the fall musical in November!
Last week, I posted an application to be on the name change committee. Thank you to all who applied. We worked with staff from the PPS Family and Community Engagement to develop the questions on the application and develop a rubric to determine the committee members. The committee must be composed of a majority of current students with other members coming from the community and staff. Once the committee is established, we will publicize the work of the committee and collect community feedback in the process. Please feel free to direct any questions to me.

Through ParentVUE, parents and guardians can easily report:
Full-day absences
Partial-day absences
Individual class period absences
Note: You can still email clevelandattend@pps.net to excuse past absences.
Action Needed: Please ensure you can log into your ParentVUE account prior to November 2.
Student Driver Registration Form & Pass Distribution
All students who are driving to school and parking at the Marshall Campus must register their car to recieve a parking pass. Here is the link to register.
Students: If you have already registered, come pick up your parking pass during FLEX this Tuesday (10/27) or Wednesday (10/28) in the Main Hall from VP-Keyla Santiago.

IB Department
IB Exam registration ends on Wednesday!! Students can still register for IB Exams for the May 2027 session. We apologize for the hiccups last week with the form, but it is up and running again! Regular registration is open until October 28th - after that point, late registrations incur additional fees. You can find information about the exams, the benefits of testing, which courses are eligible, cost and opportunities for financial assistance, and more in the IB section of the Cleveland website. The slides and a recording of the IB Informational Meetings on September 30th and October 14th can also be found there.
Extended Essay Showcase
Mark your calendars for the IB Extended Essay Showcase on Wednesday, November 18th. As part of the process of earning their full IB Diploma, the 2027 Senior Diploma candidates have written 4,000 word Extended Essays on individual research topics, and will be transforming them into 10-minute presentations in preparation for our Showcase! You can rotate through the session style Showcase and see up to 5 of the 80 TED Talk-like presentations. This is a great opportunity for families of the candidates to see them shine, and also for families of our 9th and 10th graders to get a sense of what working toward the full IB Diploma looks like. This is the culminating event for these hardworking students, so please plan to join us to celebrate our full Diploma candidates as they present on their exciting and individual research!!
Hoping to see you all there,
Jamie Briscoe
