Reminders from the Health Suite
Keeping Everyone Healthy & Safe
The following are important reminders of when students should remain home due to illness.
1. Your child should be fever-free for 24 hours without any medication before returning to school
2. Children with vomiting and diarrhea are to be kept home for 24 hours after the last episode.
3. Children with suspected infectious diseases (e.g., pink eye, any unknown rashes, etc.) should be kept home until verification from your healthcare provider can be obtained.
We are very grateful that our students want to come to school, especially when there are special activities like classroom events, school events, field trips, etc. However, to prevent their illnesses from becoming worse or making others sick, we ask that our processes outlined above are closely followed.
All medications, including over-the-counter medications such as Tylenol, need a doctor’s note and must be in the original container. No loose medication will be dispensed to students. Students are not permitted to carry medication with them to school. Medications must be brought to the Health Suite by an adult, preferably at the beginning of the school day.
Important Dental Examination Information
As per Pennsylvania law, a dental examination must be submitted to the School Nurse at three separate times during a student’s education: upon entry (either Kindergarten or 1st grade), in 3rd grade, and again in 7th grade. Dental exams dated after July 1, 2022, are acceptable for both Kindergarten and third-grade students if you have not submitted one already.
For your convenience, kindly reach out to Mrs. McOwen at rmcowen@pvsd.org to provide your child's last dental exam date and provider information.
Attention Second-grade parents & guardians: Now is the time to consider submitting your school dental forms or the date of your child's last exam if they have been seen by the dentist. Any dental exam dated after July 1, 2023, is acceptable for the third-grade dental mandate. For questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. McOwen.
Attention 5th Grade Parents
As per Pennsylvania law, a physical examination must be submitted to the School Nurse at three separate times during a student’s education: upon entry (either Kindergarten or 1st grade), in 6th grade, and again in 11th grade. Physical exams dated after July 1, 2023, are acceptable for 5th-grade students.
To access the required form, please visit the PVSD website under "Departments," then "Health and Wellness," followed by "PV Nursing," and finally, "Medical Forms."
