Teachers have some very important information to share. Next week our discussion will be the season of Spring; our letter will be Qq-Letterland character Quarrelsome Queen; sight words- there, little; reviewing word families, Reviewing numbers 0-20 and subtraction. Please continue to read with your child and go over sight words nightly. Thank you for all you do for our students at WPS.

First Grade: Hello from First Grade! Next week, we will continue with fiction texts by reading Mice and Beans. We will be discussing reality vs. fantasy. Our Letterland sound focus is -ie and -igh and our spelling words for the week are: night, lie, right, tied, tight, pie, light, high, might, tries. In math, we will be working on strategies for adding ten. Please continue to practice sight words and read nightly. Also, study spelling words weekly. Allergy season is upon us. With that being said, it would be greatly appreciated for Kleenex donations for your child’s classroom. We will also be having a school-wide egg hunt on March 31st. Anyone willing to donate individually wrapped candy and plastic eggs would be helpful. Thanks for all you do!

Second Grade: Greetings from Second Grade! We appreciate everyone who was able to attend conferences last week. If you haven’t received your child’s report card, please make contact with their teacher as soon as possible to schedule a conference. We have planned our Spring field trip for May 24, 2023. Resource:

Music: Students are learning about melody direction and seasonal songs. We integrate role play to practice proper etiquette and protocol. WPS students will welcome guests to programs, introduce parents to teachers and staff, and practice these skills during real-life scenarios. Please access Music Google Classroom for further resources, songs, and activities. Thank you to the parents who participate in Music Class DoJo! It is such fun to share videos and pictures with you!

Art: Our awesome little artists have been working on St. Patrick’s Day pieces this week! We continue to review the element of Color by naming the colors of the Rainbow and which order they come in.

School Nurse:

Is it Allergies or a Cold?

1. If fever is present, it is likely to be a cold or viral infection of some kind, NOT an allergy.

2. Fatigue and exhaustion usually indicate a cold or viral illness.

3. Itchy, watery eyes indicate allergies, NOT a cold.

4. Clear, THIN nasal drainage along with itchy, watery eyes suggest allergies, while THICK nasal drainage indicates a cold or infection.

5. A common cold rarely has symptoms lasting over a week, while allergy symptoms will last longer (as long as allergens like pollen are present).

There’s no cure for the common cold. Typical treatments include rest, fluids, and over-the-counter medications. Nasal rinses can bring relief for both colds and allergies as well.
