Dear Sun Valley Families,
I am incredibly proud to share that Sun Valley Elementary has earned a B Rating from TEA. This achievement reflects the hard work, dedication, and commitment of our students, staff, and families. Our B rating is something to celebrate, and I am so proud of the growth and progress happening at SVE.
At the same time, we know we are not done. Our goal is to continue growing, learning, and working together toward becoming an A-rated campus. We believe our Blazers are capable of great things, and every day we are committed to giving our students the instruction, support, and opportunities they need to reach their full potential.
One of the most important ways families can support this work is through strong attendance. Our campus goal is 98% attendance, because every school day matters. When students are at school consistently, they have more opportunities to learn, practice new skills, build relationships, and experience success. Even a few missed days can add up and create learning gaps over time.
Thank you for partnering with us and for trusting us with your children each day. We are proud of how far we have come, excited about where we are going, and ready to take on the school year!
With appreciation,
Mrs. Jaramillo

It is extremely important that all families complete the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) form. Completing this form helps our campus maintain eligibility for the program that provides free meals to all students.
We appreciate your cooperation and attention to this important matter. Thank you for helping us continue to provide valuable resources and support for our Sun Valley Blazers!
Familias de Sun Valley!

IDs
Visitors to campuses are required to have their picture IDs available at all times. Parents will not be allowed entry past the front offices of each campus, nor will they be allowed to meet with or sign out a student without a picture ID. In case of parent emergencies, when someone other than the parent picks up a student, that individual must be listed on the approved emergency contact list AND have a valid picture ID. Phone or text verifications will not be accepted. To ensure the safety and well-being of all students, proper identification and parent permission granted on the emergency contact list are the only ways to prevent unauthorized individuals from picking up students.
Late Afternoon Check-outs
To ensure a safe and smooth dismissal daily, the district has designated late afternoon check-out times for all campuses. For elementary campuses, 3:00 p.m. is the latest that a parent may sign out a student before dismissal. Any special circumstances may be discussed with the campus principal.

Dismissal Reminder and Procedures
AFTERNOON
Dismissal begins at 3:35 pm.
Download the "Here Comes the Bus" app to track the bus.
If your student is a car rider, please stay in your vehicle. Staff will load students, however they will not strap them in. If you need to strap in a student, please pull up past the #1 loading zone, so we can continue to keep the car line moving.
Stay in your vehicle.
Students will be loaded on the passenger side.
Walkers not picked up by 3:55 pm, are taken to the front office for late pick-up.
We do not have staff available to monitor students after 4:00 pm. Please DO NOT be late picking students up.
Please:
- Please do not use your cell phone in the pick up line, we are a CELL PHONE FREE ZONE.
- DO NOT park in the Emergency Lane.
- DO NOT walk up to staff during dismissal to pick up students in the front of the school. We will not release them to you.
- DO NOT block the pedestrian crossing to drop off or pick up students.
- DO NOT block the entrance/exit of the Valley Hi Church.
***Be courteous AND do not cut in the line during drop off/pick up.***
Sun Valley Families,
We have seen an increase in students being dropped off in the Walker Zone. Please remember that the Walker Zone is intended for students who walk to and from school and must not be used as a drop-off location for students arriving by vehicle.
All students being dropped off by car must use the designated drop-off area at the front of the school. This is essential to maintaining a safe arrival and dismissal process for all students.
Our School Resource Officer (SRO) Barnes has been monitoring the area during morning arrival and dismissal. Signs along the exit indicate No Parking. The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) has also been patrolling the area and issuing citations to vehicles parked in or blocking the Walker Zone.
Vehicles blocking this area also create a safety concern for our buses as they exit the campus.
Safety is a shared responsibility, and we appreciate your partnership in keeping our Blazers safe!
Please take a moment to review the map below.
Thank you for your cooperation and continued support.
Absences
- If your child is absent, please send an absence note to the classroom teacher or the front office. Students are recognized and rewarded for perfect attendance. More information about attendance can be found here https://www.swisd.net/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=4443995&type=d&pREC_ID=2270295
🔉🔉 Important Safety Reminders 🚨🚨
We are seeing an increase in students making threats, often “as a joke.” Please remind your child that:
All threats are taken seriously and require a Behavior Threat Assessment (BTA).
The process includes interviews with the student, the target, witnesses, and parents.
Any threat may will result in at least one day of Out-of-School Suspension (OSS). There will be additional consequences based on the severity and nature of the threat.
Students may not return to campus until all initial BTA questions are completed.
BTAs stay in the state-wide system until students are 24 years old.
Additionally, students may not draw or create items that resemble weapons out of any materials, including their hands.

- Keep the bus clean.
- Cooperate with the driver.

Students should feel confident that they will travel in a safe and secure environment. We appreciate your cooperation in resolving student concerns. Student discipline generated by a referral is handled by school administration.
ATTENTION BUS RIDER PARENTS
Please speak to your child about appropriate behavior on the school bus. We are seeing an uprising in bus misconduct. Please know that misbehavior on the bus will not be tolerated as it becomes a safety concern. Students are subject to suspension from the bus, amount of days depends on the misconduct.

Download the SWISD Mobile App today!
The Southwest ISD app is available to download free from the Apple App Store or the Google Play store. Download it today! 😀
This mobile app will help students, parents, and community members know what is happening around the District and on campus from their phones.
Most families use their phones as a primary means of communication, so we’ve created an app that is custom-built to our schools for smartphones. On the app, students, parents, and the community can read the latest announcements, locate staff contact information, review upcoming events, find important documents, news from administrators, student stories, and even emergency notifications. Always be in the know, with Southwest ISD on the go!
