Principal's Corner
Greetings Doty Families!
We have quite a week coming up!
Haunted Hallway Saturday, 6-8 PM. A beloved Doty tradition returns! Our 6th graders have been working hard to put together an event for the whole family. Ms Fayle is creating an Enchanted Forest full of carnival games and face painting for Worcester littles. There will be refreshments and fun in the gym. Elsewhere - be prepared to be scared!!
Halloween Parade Tuesday 3 PM. Please send your spooky muffins to school in regular clothes. We will change into costumes here. Remember, this is costume-lite - we are saving the hair, makeup, and accessories for home. Also, no weapons or masks that might be too scary for our mini-muffins.
Board Meeting at Doty! Wednesday at 6PM. Please come! I’ll start the meeting with a presentation about social-emotional learning here at Doty, highlighting the work we are doing to help our students learn to manage their very big feelings. Following that presentation is a presentation about the budget with an opportunity for community input.
I’ll close with a final reminder to please not send you students in with more than 2 or 3 pieces of Halloween candy for snack/lunch. The sugar rushes and then the crashes are real and often lead to tummy aches, tears, and otherwise hard days. If your students argue with you, just blame me!
As always, thank you for sharing your students with us!
Gillian
Notes from the Nurse
This week, we worked with the 2nd graders on the Five Food Groups: Fruits, Vegetables, Grains, Protein, and Dairy/Dairy Alternatives. We tasted a variety of foods from the different food groups, and talked about combining all of these food groups on their plates to make a healthy meal. The students enjoyed trying frozen blueberries, purple radishes, patty pan squash, granola, and more. We will continue to expand on healthy eating for the other grades.
If you or anyone in your family aged 6 months to 64 years is still needing Flu or Covid vaccines, the Vermont Dept of Health is offering the following clinics:
Sat Oct 28th 9am-4 pm Crossett Brook Middle School
Sun Oct 29th 9am-4pm The Universalist Church, Barre
Weds Nov 8th 4pm-8pm Spaulding High School
Sun Nov 19th 9am-4pm Harwood Union High School
These are walk-in clinics and take most insurances.

Please join us Saturday, October 28th from 6-8 for a revival of Doty's spookily spectacular Haunted Hallway and Halloween party!
The details:
-If you dare to enter, the Haunted Hallway will run from 6-8 (While some kiddos may find it scary, know that we are certainly keeping our elementary school audience in mind.)
-Entry and snacks by donation.-Please note that all students must be accompanied by a guardian for this event. We ask that you share with your student the expectation that everyone is to be in the gym unless they are in the Haunted Hallway, for everyone's safety, and are not to wander elsewhere in the school or outside without their grownup.
-This event is sponsored by 6th and 5th grade Doty students and their families. We hope to see you!
